Baddouble Rejection Q

Tue Feb 10, 2004 7:05 am

Screeners and all,

First of all Im not complaining for my rejection. Just wondering why it was rejected as being a baddouble since its the first time I upload a shot of that aircraft.

Here's the pic Im talking about:

Did screeners got confuse with this one?

Also its not the first time I got a rejection for being a baddouble.... a few months ago had some problems with some pics of MIA.... but the pic I specially wanted to upload was an AF1 pic since it was my first time in life that saw that aircraft!

Another confusion?

I don't have the link to my pic since its not any longer in the last 50 rejection page., but it was very similar to JC's shot.

So, baddouble applies also for other pics in DB but not taken by you??? Cause, I've seen hundreds of baddoubles in DB but different photogs!

Thanks,

Maybe because of this one?

BADDOUBLE
These photos have already been added to the database or you have
uploaded other photos that look very much like these. Please read more
on this issue in the Upload-FAQ.

Note: You could also get rejection message if there are photos very similar
to these that have passed the first screening and are waiting for the
second, final, screening. Also, generally if you submit a number shots of
an aircraft taken at the same time, only the best 1 or 2 will be selected
and rest may have been rejected as doubles. You can better control
which ones we accept by only uploading the 1 or 2 best shots from a
sequence of photographs of the same aircraft.

Please check the database carefully for already existing photos of this aircraft
before uploading new photos and refrain from reuploading photos which where rejected with baddouble. Continous reuploading might result in a temporary ban from the site.

So, baddouble applies also for other pics in DB but not taken by you?

No they would be bad common in that case.

You can always make use of the appeal function Ricardo.

Colin, is that really bad double? What about the comments Johan made? If that is bad double, what are these (as an example)?

Decent shots but certainley all in sequence, in violation of the spirit of the rule, if not the words.

Colin,

Thank you very much for your answear! I admit it I upload 2 shots of the same day and same aircraft., but just like Royal S. King point out there are a lot of examples in DB that violate the baddouble rule. I know there are certain exceptions when its a 'new' subject., but AM's 737s or PIAs 777s are no longer a new subjet.

The thing is that I think every screener 'screens' in a different way. That's the thing I just dont understand. I know the upload rules and I always try to follow them or try to be very strict with my uploads. If Jason's pics made them into the DB I think there are 3 diffrerent screeners. 1. Screeners that tolerate 2 shots in sequence, 2. Screeners that don't follow the rules as they supose to do it and 3. Screeners that are very strict with the process.

Anyway, in a side note, its easier to guess why we have on DB 58,506+ photos in UK vs. a poor number of 2,250+ taken in Mexico.

About appealing, I rather prefer to reupload than appealing because it takes longer to get a response from the chief! Thank you very much for your time!

Hey Guys,

I don't want to get into this baddouble debate again. I honestly believe we screeners have eased up on the baddouble issue since Johan's recommendation a short time ago.

We can all go through the DB and pick out numerous examples to justify ourselves, all I was trying to do was give Ricardo a theory on why it was rejected. I am not saying it should have or shouldn't have been rejected.
All of us have been through this at one time or another including we screeners, although that may not look that way with Royal's examples.

Regards,
Colin

Gents,

Thanks for the free hits  Smile

To clarify - the slavish application of the badDouble rule should be a thing of the past. The shots should be being judged on their merits as an individual photo. There should no longer be situations where one shot is rejected just because you had two other completely different ones already uploaded / in the queue. Two 'similar' shots, yes but not if they're different views.

Hi Ricardo and all,

As Colin has mentioned, there has been some easing up on this rule of late. Rules do change over time. I believe this rule change has made it more fair for the photographers, and better in terms of the database and viewing public.

Each photo is individually treated and weighed up against the rules and current database contents. Being individual screeners, we have different eyes. We are human after all. When screening, we compare to the current shots of this reg, and the current shots that you have - both in queue (if present) and in the database.

First of all, we recommend you upload the best one or two photos for a given reg + day + movement.
There are situations where 2 are handy, and some where 2 will never be accepted. These rules use common sense and come down to commonality, database comparisons, rareness, unusual situations etc.

To see a new aircraft coming down the taxiway is great. I love seeing new metal. The catch is however, that we will all have far more chances to see the new aircraft, than an old one.
And being avid aviation enthusiasts, we (screeners) generally know (like you) if the aircraft is going to be seen again.

We love the first shot. Because no one knows if an aircraft is going to crash or be damaged in some way. But repetition early on isn't what we need for these to-be-common aircraft.

Ricardo, having uploaded two images (given it being a new aircraft) we generally try not to accept both. There are always acceptions to this rule, but for me two things would have assisted me with my decision.

1. Juan having a similar shot - which isn't really the reason for the bad double, but would have helped me decide over the two
More importantly though.....
2. Your second shot was sharper, different and higher quality.

I would have rejected the rejected shot in question as being both double and soft.

Bottom line is, you'll have plenty of time to shoot this fine aircraft.
So keep them coming....

Respected users.... If my replies are useful, then by all means...

Glenn,

Thank you very much for the feedback! I think I was a bit frustrated a few days ago cause it was not the first time I had some rejections, as I said before a lot of my pictures have been rejected since there are too similar to JC's shots.... but we always almost go to spot together.
