Best Digital Camera For Less Than $250.00

Tue Feb 24, 2004 1:22 pm

No, I am not dumping my 300D! A friend is looking for a decent Digital camera for less than $250.00. He will just be using this camera for basic stuff. What are some good cameras out there in this price range?

Thanks.

Our school has 4MP versions of that camera ^

They seem pretty good actually. I used one and took some impressive shots. Also easy to use. I personally own a Sony CyberShot DSC-P72.

I can only agree with UTA on that option. This camera really is it when you're shooting basic stuff, not too expensive, not too cheap and you can get great photos out of it.
I'm using that one myself for almost a year now and i'm still happy.
I have even used it for aviation photography and got some pics from it up here so it can't be that bad  Wink/being sarcastic
Yes, for aviation it is very limited that's for sure, but for basic stuff like family occasions i wouldn't want to switch to another camera...

Cheers,
Alex

Dude, If you have to ask  Sleepy

I can hold my own.

I have recently upgraded to digital.. I consider my set up pretty nice. Why is it you have to come into this thread and start talking sheeit about the 300D? The 10D and 300D are pretty much the same camera. There is no way you could tell a photo taken with the 10D and 300D apart... So, I say again, why is the 300D crap? You still havent told me what it is you use...

I think what I have to say here is... NEXT!

Oh, and almost forgot, you get the

Chad,

You don't know when to stop do you? O.K. you have a 300d. Big deal. An entry level slr. Get over it. Learn to use it like Royal mentioned, and I agree with him.

Royal, can you bring that thing out to the field next month? I'd enjoy shooting a frame or two with it screwed onto my camera.  Big grin I'll be up there 15-19 March.

I know when to stop Jeff... Thats for sure.. I dont think you know when to begin, because I havent heard anything logical from you at all. You tend to act like you know everything, but, you dont. I know the type,10% of all chiefs are that way.... I damn sure dont know everything, but, I also dont act like it. Big difference.

Fact remains, I am still trying to learn the digital side of it. I could have gotten the 10D. You know how a deployment is dontcha? You can save a ton of money, and thats what I did. I opted not to go for the 10D for a few reasons. I am constantly asking questions, and 95% of the people in here are really helpful. Tony Z, Gary Watt, Rez Manzoori, Craig Hendley, Tim Samples, Ryan Kaskell to name just a few.

If only I had the patience to learn this slide/film scanner, I could show you some of the photos I have taken with my Minolta 700si.. Like I said, I can hold my own.

Jeff, maybe you could take photos of Uranus with that lens too. Show your photos to Royal and you can compare them.

Chiefs DO know everything Chad..... just ask one.  Big grin I'm sure you as a 3rd or 2nd class P.O. think you know everything... Right? Do I know what a deployment is? Gee, I'll have to get back to you on that...

I think you made the right choice in selecting the 300d over the 10d. I like it better the the 10d myself. I have said that many times, you probably just never took the time to read any posts where I mentioned that. I've even recommended it to some people. But many of us here own Nikon equipment, and have used it for many, many years.

"Hold your own.." I'm sure you do.

It's good to ask questions....it's also good to learn somethings by yourself. And I agree with you.... you do need patience, and some humility.

Ok, ok.. I know Nikon makes a great camera. I said that out of spite. Actually i have been a Minolta guy for the longest, and it was tough to switch over to another brand, but, its working out.

My last upload I went 11 for 11... I thought that was pretty good. The time before that 1 for 2, and I fixed the other one and it got accepted. Rejections, although people may not agree, are good. They help you become a better photographer. Most of those other shots will still sell elsewhere too.

If I am lucky, Ill make E6 this time up.. The rate is closing up fast on the high end... I think Ill have to go recruiting to get that little EXTRA edge so I can continue to advance...

Anyhow, its all good, and I would like to publicly apologize to you...

Regards,
Chad

"...Rejections, although people may not agree, are good. They help you become a better photographer...."

If one were to base "good photography" on only the images that get accepted, they'd be a fool.

In this current A.net climate, I might be one of the outcast .... but to me a cloudy, 300mm+ ground photo of an American MD80 with clutter behind it is NOT a good photo. It could be the sharpest 10D/L-glass (whatever!) image produced ... forget about it.

Chad...

Some honest advice:

Sit back and read for a while. Follow posts. Lurk. Learn to use the forum search engine effectively. Most of all the threads you start have already been discussed.

There's a lot to gain from patiently listening and only ask certain questions AFTER you've exhausted ALL research avenues.

I'd never tell anyone to curb their enthusiasm, but a big deep breath might help reduce some tensions around here towards you.

William

Thanks Chad. I'm an ex Minolta X-700 user myself.
Good luck on making 1st. And your right, rejections can be a valuable a tool.
