Spotting At BRU On 9th March

Fri Mar 05, 2004 5:52 pm

Hello all

I'm planning to "burn" a free ticket on Helvetic Airways in a single day and choose BRU as my destination (I hope for good weather).

Can somebody please tell me how I get to the photo spot on 25L (approach shots) from the terminal?

Many thanks indeed, maybe I see one of you guys there...

Unique,

That's a long walk to the finals of 25L (or any other runway)! You would probably need a car (or somebody who has a car  Big grin).

Don't you change your mind and come here the next weekend (13th-14th)? Big grin

For 25R, there is one good spot at the cemetery (and is slightly closer to the terminals IF you decide to walk there). Anyway, prison or cemetery, it's up to you...  Big grin

25L? You will be as bored as a rat...  Big grin

Landing traffic usually takes 25L, except the cargo's (25R) and several Schengen-flights (going to Pier A).

25R gets all the rest (more traffic in general but small planes, aka CRJ's, B737's,...). The few widebodies we have here will have landed already before the Helvetic flight arrives, and before you will reach the spot.

Going to 25L: impossible by foot, you will have to take a taxi or hire a car. It will certainly take you one hour to walk (probably even more).

From the other side, you can always spot the departures. All traffic normally takes off from 25R (unless the winds turn of course).

From the terminal: you go outside, and walk down the road, till you are under a big bridge. You will see a few hangars, and the DHL planes on your right side. Enter that road, follow, and you will see a bridge.

From there you can get shots like this:

You can always continue to the spot at Brucargo: when you are at the bridge where the UA B763 shot was taken, you have to follow that bridge and turn right downstairs. Follow that street for about 100 metres till you have a road going upstairs. The aircrafts will fly over you. Continue and you will have this view:

Thanx for the plug Frederic  Smile/happy/getting dizzy,

Except for the taxiing 744 from SQ which was shot from my 'secret location' Big grin all the spots are accurately described.

Sure you need a car to drive around if you don't want to get bored at BRU, depending on my schedule and weather, I could come to bru that day.

Feel free to let me know by e-mail, what are your arrengements.

Also you can check http://www.luchtzak.be for more info.

Cheers

Gents, thanks so much for all the info! I'm stuck to either 8th, 9th, 15th or 16th March as these days are my days off (plus others of course but I have something else on then).
I'm studying the weather forecasts for the next days and decide then...

Unique: in that case, I'd go for one of the two Mondays you mentioned (8-15).

I personally find Thursdays always a bit slower than Mondays...

Unique:

Nice to see you want to pay BRU a small visit. As already pointed out over here, it's easier to go by foot to the side of 25R where aircraft take off than the other end, where they come in to land (same as 25L).

Too bad you can't make it during the weekend. But hey, enjoy your visit and have fun!
