Lens Choices For LAX!

Tue Mar 23, 2004 9:05 pm

I am travelling to LAx in afew weeks and plan to do some shooting while i'm there! What are the "must haves" in terms of focal lengths on lenses???

I'm thinking of taking my 100-400/17-40/70-200 and my 1.4x convertor! Is this going to be sufficient??? Or should i take my 28-135 aswell???

If you plan to spot at the finals, 70-200 should do it for the most of the (bigger) planes. For smaller planes and for Imperial Hill 100-400 will be the right choice. I don't really think you would do anything with the 28-135, as long as you only take pictures of planes and you don't have a ramp access.  Smile

Your 100-400 and 70-200 lenses are fine, but I would bring the 28-135 just in case you shoot from a place we call "Little Cargo". The 28-135 would be good for the bizjets that taxi past this location, not to mention the freighters that taxi past as well.

When do you plan to be in LA?

Please contact me via the e-mail link to my photos on this site and let me know your schedule, maybe I can show you around LAX abit.

Cheers

Michael,

Isn't that a place where the police hassles you away in less than few minutes?!

Interesting topic, since there's a small chance I might be going to LAX myself (again - this time for photography).

Would a 75-300mm also be sufficient for decent LAX photography?

Once in awhile they ask us to leave yes, just depends on which officers are on duty.

Ivan,

Yes, the 75-300mm lens is fine, that's what I use for the majority of my photos.
