Flying With Film

Mon Mar 29, 2004 4:07 am

Tomorrow I will be flying and will have my camera with me. What should I know when it comes to bringing my camera and film thru the checkpoint?

I've never had any problems: film, video or otherwise.

Film? whats that? =)

but seriously you shouldnt have any problems, just keep them in their cases, and if you want to be extra safe don't leave any film in the camera while going through the checkpoint, but I've never had any problems either way.

Carry on is usually okay unless you have some real high speed film or are making multiple passes through the machine. You can ask for hand inspection. If you are going to do that have the film out of boxes and in something like a clear zip lock bag. Makes things go much faster.

DO NOT put film in your checked bags. The new scanning machines will turn it to toast. (Every time I have flown recently the TSA folks have made it a point to ask if I had any film in the bag as it will be ruined.)
