Great Day At AMS!

Tue Apr 13, 2004 1:57 am

Hey all,

Just wanted to let you know that we had a great day at AMS today, with a special visitor, mr Konstantin von Wedelstaedt from Frankfurt. Loads of great planes and superb weather made it a superb day. The shots will be on A.net in no time, looking at the lovely possibilities we had.

here is a group shot:

from left to right:

Wietse de Graaf, Eduard Brantjes, Konstantin von Wedelstaedt, Tim de Groot.

Canon glass all the way between Dutch channels!!

Unfortuntely no AMS for me this long weekend, did some [paid?] photo shooting at world famous Seppe airfield! Got a Yak-52, Grob-115, C-150, C-172, and some stuff that I still need to identify.

Great to see that you had this nice weather.

Harm

PS. Did you crossbeam???? Smile/happy/getting dizzy

My thoughts exactly, Harm, in regards to Canon. Woo!

Glad to hear you guys had yet another successful day of spotting. I know I came home with a biatche of a sunburn on Saturday, all around my neck and face. Looks like it was just perfect in the Netherlands, though...

Got a little sunburned as well Smile

Sure was an L lens bonanza today. That picture didn't even show Wietse's, and my 28-70L.

We were a bit unlucky with traffic. Some nice stuff departed the other runway unfortunately, but still a great day!

Ivan: Yeah our 30 foot partyboat was laying in the canal Big grin

Tim

P.S. Wietse after you left we finally got a massive brakeduster.....whoohoo Smile

But wietse got the best shot of the day anyway

Tim's neck is thick enough even to hold all that Canon glass???

Ivan,
Good Dutch tradition [actually it's a Fries tradition, from nortern part of the Netherlands] is used to jump the canals: it's called fierljeppen. It's a sort of pole to jump over the canals. Given the fact that Konstantin is dry, that must mean the sun did a good job!

Joe, you may not believe this, but AMS spotters lost a great number of fabulous photo spots over the past 10 years . . . Nuts

1. So great to see all that Canon glass, yes.

2. It's great also to see threads like this of others in our hobby having great times like this. Thought on other sides of the plane,t we can all relate and appreciate how good of a time we can have doing this.

3rd, and most importantly, Joe, that was the most blatant way to get hits I've ever seen! LOL. I love it.

Weitse, how old are you, if you don't mind my asking. You seem young, and I've always thought, maybe with your high caliber of photos, that you'd be much older.

Cheers

Yup that was one lucky shot.... Tim was not paying attention, Eduard was changing lenses and Konstantin had the wrong lens attached... so I was pretty much the only one to see that...

Wietse, that's absolutely brilliant stuff!!! Can't wait to see the A.net versions! Just get rid of some dust spots, and your average view will hit 1000 in no time!

Holy canal

You can see the Nr.4 jetwash against the contrails . . . freaking good.

I also wanted to point out the 100% dominance of Canon Lens. I am a Nikon guy but I will keep that to myself Big grin
Was this a Saturday which the four of you were out spotting?
Sounds like this trip has been already one of the best so far this year.
I also happened to be out at my local airport of YYC spotting for a grueling 11 hours. With only like a fifth of the traffic and a tenth of heavies that fly to my home airport, I am amazed that I did not fall asleep in my car while waiting for one or two A330' and some 737s. Big grin

None the less I too had a pretty good time at this airport getting some nice pictures and meeting up with some fellow local spotters. As a bonus, I got a nice refreshing blow of A320 jetblast to warm me up on this mildly cool day.

Wietse: KILLER SHOT man! Two generations of A340 in one shot. In the last 150-200 shots from ya, I have been very impressed with your consistenly uber sharp and upclose pictures of Dutch heavies.
Look forward to seeing your shots of the NW DC10 in new colors anytime soon.

Yay!  Big thumbs up

PS: Tim de Groot: Just refreshed post and saw your awesome pictures. Intense tire powders from the 16 wheels. Damm, two photographers already impressed the hell outta me. I certainly Can't wait to see the rest from Konstantin and Eduard. In my lifetime.. I MUST visit Schipol.

nice to see the AMS/FRA Canon gang between the waters....  Smile

Great preview shots, I think this summer I will also spend a weekend in AMS. Only have a 70-200mm though, but hope I won't get a minority complex with it?

Wietse,
There seems to be missing two true Canon-guys on that photo, Anton Pettersson and I were at Schiphol today as well...
Could have been a "huge" airliners.net meeting, but I guess there will be more times.

Nice shot of those A340s, it seems to be a little competition among the uploads from today...maybe Big grin

If you want to know the reg of the LH, you might want to ask Konstantin - he is a fleet planner, for one, maybe he'd know?

Also, that shot is AMAZING.

Tim, you also got some very nice material.

I'd love to join you guys for spotting... hopefully in the next year or 2.

Awesome contrail shot, man. Way to keep your eyes peeled. EXIF? (Specifically shutterspeed and F-stop.)

As for all the white lenses... well heck, just look in the photographer's pit at any major league sporting event and you'll see a preponderance of white...

Joining in a little late in this thread, got home late but safe after the long drive home. (thus no chance for a photo preview yet)
There's not much to add, it was a really great day, and I just wish I had more opportunities to visit AMS. Even in today's setup, I can't think of an airport that offers more possibilities than AMS.
It was great to meet old and new friends, well-known a.net names, thanks to all of you guys!
