Kodak Or Fuji?

Wed Apr 21, 2004 10:17 pm

I used to be a solid Kodak man, but i work for walgreens (drug store) and we recently switched all our photo lab equipment to Fuji. During the week of training we had to go through to learn about the new equipment, the Fuji trainer guy talked up how much better Fuji Film was to Kodak. And so i tried some out on my last trip to Ireland, and i must say the pictures came out much more vibrant then i've really ever seen with Kodak film. Also did a comparison of Kodak Echtachrome with the Fuji Fujichrome and although the comparisons were similiar i'd have to say that Fuji won out that one as well. Sooo anyway im sold on Fuji. Kodak just doesn't seem to have it anymore. anyone else have anything to say about it?

It's all about personal taste...
I've heard people say Fuji has more saturated colours and Kodak is more 'natural'. I've never shot Kodak (slides), so I've never seen them side by side...

i've used both fuji and kodak films and have to say that skin tones are much better with kodak films. in general the red color is better displayed with kodak whereas fuji tends to have a blue cast.

Having compared Kodak and Fuji slidefilms of the same generations I have to agree Fuji has better colour rendition in all except (for some emulsions) the skintones.
But that's mainly with Velvia which is specifically NOT targetted at an audience likely to be worried about skintones.

I keep Kodak in mind as a viable alternative if I ever run out of Fuji and can't get it where I am, but that's the extend of it.
