Kclt Spotting & Photography

Mon Apr 26, 2004 12:43 am

Hi everyone, I'm new to a.net and was wondering, for all of those CLT enthusiasts, where are some good photo opp spots? I've traveled down to the airport a bit, but I havn't been back in a while, actually, it's been about a year. I'd also like to know what the security issues are down there as well. Thanks for everything in advance, and I hope to be talking to you all on the forums soon.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Welcome to a.net! When I was younger, abt 15-20 years ago, I used to spend a lot of time at CLT. This was back when you could get thru security with out a boarding pass. Although I haven't been back there in abt 10 years, I pass by it from time to time, and this evening I will also. There seems to be a lot of traffic these days. The only place I can remember getting close, is the air cargo area off of Billy Graham somewhere. I am sure someone else can probably help you out more.

i'm sure some of the locals can help you out more than i can...but there are a few places i can recommend:

the overlook near the threshold of runway 18R...gives you a great view and is open all day...the fence is down low too so you don't have to worry about getting the fence in the shots...(best for afternoons)

also, the north carolina air museum on the northeast side of the field (near 18L) offers some good views as well (best for mornings)...$3 gets you in the museum and there's a viewing deck they built up there so you can see over the fence...

there's more spots but i don't think you can stop there anymore...

hope this helps,
