What Do You Think Of My Low Quality Picture?

Wed May 05, 2004 6:10 am

Hi everybody.

first, thank you all to read my topic.

Segundo, I really want to upload a picture in Airliners.net, maybe one day...
for the moment I try, but I have only rejection... But I understood, I don't have a good camera. I have a canon A70.

I'm now happy to see that A.net is open My aviation.net.
but this site doesn't have the same traffic volume and no forum. Is why I ask you for the opinion of my pictures.

http://myaviation.net/?pid=00107324
http://myaviation.net/?pid=00105526
or
http://myaviation.net/?uid=3972
I only upload 5 pics for the moment but I have many others rejected in my computer.

I love to spend time around an airport and in the terminal...
I'm thinking to change my A70 this summer for C-750 or the new canon S1is.
I would like to buy a better quality camera but for the moment the money is hard to find... But I'm not worry, maybe in couple of month or in couple of years I be a a.net photographer...  Smile

all your comment are welcome...
thank you in advance.

regards

in the closeups the wings are cut off. With the AF, it is baddistance, too far away.

Try to get closer if you can, and when you are in the terminal, don't cut off the wings.

Hopefully that helps.

First thing:

Your camera is up to it. Don't go out and get something more expensive just yet.

The ERJ is grainy, it isn't level and there's too much airport paraphenalia around it.

The Dash-8 in particular is a nice image, but there's too much clutter - the people in the foreground and the truck off to the left. That might have got through minus the people and the vehicle.

You'll get stuff on here no problem. Try your absolute hardest to capture an aircraft out in the open (on a taxiway, or about to depart), nice and tightly framed. Make sure it's levelled; if not, do this in photoshop. You might have to take thirty pictures to get the right one.

There's nothing wrong with your photographs, but you need to train yourself to think what a screener is going to kick a photograph out for, and plan your shots accordingly.

It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

Hi,

I checked your photos on MyAviation.Net.
All of them seem too soft, I think with some USM in Photoshop you should be able too get them a lot sharper. Also I recommend that you resize your images from 1600 to 1280 or maybe even 1024, I'm pretty sure they will be ok then.

The photo of the landing Air France at Montreal is definitely a 'baddistance' rejection and I don't see that any editing/cropping would get this one onto A.net.

Good luck and keep trying! I'm sure you will get some photos on A.net.

Best regard,
Steven.

Hello YULtoPEI,
if money is really an issue I would stay with the A70 for a while. I have used that camera myself for a long time and I'm still using it when I don't want to bring my 300D for example for family stuff, parties and so on.
I can assure you, that camera is really capable of taking good photos and you can even get your pictures with it on here. You just have to use the best quality setting on your camera and work hard on the post processing and then I'm sure you will get some pics up here. And yes like Steven said, don't upload at 1600x****, resize them to 1024x*** and you should be fine.
My first photos on a.net are taken with this camera and I don't think they are that bad  Wink/being sarcastic
Just have a look:

I think by changing the way you crop your shots you will be on your way to getting them up. A.net is not a fan of rules of thirds nor ramp clutter. Start by centering the plane in the frame. If you clip the wings off, focus the attention from nose to tail rather than nose to wing. Also, a few of your shots have got cones and people in them yet. If you are able to, wait until it is about to push back, or get it when it is just arriving. If you follow these things along with the above selections, you will see your shots online in no time.

Everyone has to get rejected some time. The screeners are not saying your picture is bad, they are only saying it can be improved by rejecting it. Take a look at my two shots below that were taken almost a year apart. I can definitely see a difference between the two. I attribute that, in part, to the screeners saying I can do better [read:rejecting Smile]with my shots. They are telling you the same thing. Keep trying and give it a little work, I hope to see you in the database soon!

I think they look a hell of a lot more interesting than the thousands of endless approach shots on airliners.net. I'm sorry, but I really don't care to look at 200 pictures in a row of United B737s on approach to some airport with nothing in the background but blue sky. Only thing that differs on many photos on this site is the reg number of the plane or the date it was taken. What airport many photos were taken at is completely irrelevant as there is nothing in the shot but the aircraft and sky.

I'd rather look at photos with something going on or something to distinguish the location, like yours.

AAJAXFLYER: I totally agree with you... I need to turn 1-3 pages before I click on a interesting picture... and soo many look similar or took couple of second after.
