It Takes Time To Get Digital.......

Thu May 20, 2004 1:32 am

At first when I got my camera, my shots were turning out like a monkey's behind; very ugly and grainy. A big step from SLR to digital takes some getting used to and to those who intend to sell their Digicam becuase if crappy shots: Don't. It'll take time but you'll eventually get very good and think "What was I thinking?!?"

This is what I have become in 4 months... from

quite a difference, don't you think?

Well.... that's my advice Big grin

I guess that depends. Many of us here have been shooting SLRs for 10,20 or more years, so the steps involved in taking a picture have been burned into our brain, regardless of the type camera involved.

Moving from a film SLR to a Digital SLR is not that difficult if you already know how to use a camera.

I agree with Jeff. I have been photographing for 15 years, and its all second nature.

Same here. Never had a problem with digitals other than the short time it took to get familiar with the cameras themselves. But every camera takes time to get used to digital or not.

Echoing the comments above, I think that going from film to digital the hardest thing for me, even though my previous film camera was an SLR. When I switched to digital, I had to learn an entirely new skill set which I had never had experience with: using Photoshop. With film I never would have had to worry about the post-processing unless I wanted to put my pictures on the computer (which I never did myself). But I did not find it to be difficult to start using a DSLR (other than the post-processing) since I was already used to the film SLR.

I started with a Nikon Coolpix 5000 and than moved on to my D100 so I have always been a digital photographer. The D100 was my first SLR of any sort so it took a few days to figure out the basics, but with today's modern cameras getting great looking pictures is as simple as point and shot, The great shoots come with experience.

Robert.

Hey Jakbar,
"My D100 is bigger than your D100."
Really??

Haha  Laugh out loud
By the way, Nice pics Josh
Good to see a fellow Nikon Shooter.

My first point that I tried to make was that from Film SLR to Digital (not SLR) is a big step and takes some getting used to. I just trie to tell those that want to give up their Digicam for a DSLR to not expect better results unless you know Digital well and are familiar with the settings etc.
