Badlevel Once Again!

Thu May 27, 2004 11:07 pm

For whatever reason, getting shots level is proving to be one of my greatest challenges in my new hobby of aviation photography. Can anyone give me suggestions on these two shots to get them levelled out?

KLM 767 - the aircraft was travelling up a slight hill; I used the flagpole in the back as the object I levelled the photo with:

Alitalia 767 - levelled against the light poles in the background:

In both pictures the flag/lightposts are crooked. (slightly, but crooked)
Both pictures need a little CW rotation.

Some confusing optical effects in those..I can see how you struggled. The photographs give a good sense of scale - both aircraft seem to be absolutely enormous. I hope they get in.
It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

When I looked at the pictures, I focused on the trees in the distance, which are clearly not level. As Eduard said, all they need is a slight CW rotation.

I'd say about 0.2 degree Clockwise rotation.

Nitpicking a bit I feel, but that should sort out the badlevel problem.

Why are all the window shades down on the Alitalia?

The KLM one looks pretty good comparing to the vertical on the builing being constructed.
Many flagpoles and lightpoles at airports are NOT rean NOT vertical.
Come to Sydney and i canshow you 3 non vertical light poles which cause fits when trying to level a photo.
Compared to the SIN shots which are on the board here the KLM is ok but the Alitalia needs a bit of CW.

As always, thanks for the assistance. By rotating the shots slightly as you all described, I managed to sqeak the two offending shots into the database:
