When I read the header of this topic, I was more like thinking about

It all depends what you want to achieve. If range is not an issue, clearly go with the 70-200. A lot more versitile than the 100-400. Weight with these lenses is not really a problem!
I carry about 15-30 lbs of equipment around, when going on trips. It is a pain to haul it around, but very rewarding when you come home and say, yes I produced some killer shots again!
But be aware, if you buy equipment in the US, French customs duties and import taxes will be added to the price of the equipment, in case you will declare them.
