SXM Question: Where Was This Shot From?

Tue Jun 15, 2004 4:16 am

Hello All,

I will be heading down to SXM this friday. I was there last year and got some good shots but I was wondering where this picture was taken from. I know Dan said it was the Maho Beach Hotel and Resort but I was wondering exactly what room or around abouts where it was taken from.

I believe it was room 205 (or very near to that).

Hope this helps

Ok, forget everything I just said!  Big thumbs up

I found out that it's Maho Beach Ocean Terrace Room #411.

Here's the pics I found it from Smile

Yeah, I am really like with the beach in SXM. Anyone who did flew to SXM before?

As for Justin Cederholm, Ben Wang, Joe Pries, Brian Stevenson already went to SXM before. I think this is very good time in the islands.

A320,

Thanks but to me it looks like Dan's pic is taken from a point higher than Sam's pics...but maybe its just me?

Matt,

When I stayed at the Maho Beach Resort in April, I was on the fourth floor, as far east (closer to the threshold) as I could yet I didn't get a view of touchdown. I'd say go for the highest floor you can , don't really worry about the position within the floor.

There is a fine line between a picture and a photo. The latter seems to be disappearing.

I believe Dan's photo were taken from Level 9 of Island Tower....not from where I was at Room 411 Ocean Terrace. Just go up the tower and you will find the spot.

Hey, to answer your question the photo was taken from the roof of the tower. Although i must warn you it may not be a good idea to go up here as we had a little "encounter" with the local cops. They were not to happy with what we were doing. Its a pretty dangerous spot, but the results are stunning  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Dan,

Did you get permission to be up there or did you just wonder up?

Thanks

Justin:

just pay my way down there and we'll go flying over the beach...haha... Wink/being sarcastic
actually, i dunno if i could do that with only FAA ratings, but it'd be worth a shot...

Matt, we got permision first, but in retrospect i wouldn't risk doing it again. the police were pretty straight foreward in letting us know that if they saw anyone up there again they wouldnt be lying on the beach in SXM..... Didn't really think it was worth the hastle after that considering there are so many other great spots to shot from  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
