Rather Be Lucky Than Good!

Sun Jun 27, 2004 5:31 pm

G'day
Bit of a funny story to share that no doubt many of you could relate to.
After a pretty frustrating couple of months where everytime i visited our Rwy 25 shooting point i finally had a win!
Every time i went down to get the afternoon departures every heavy and i mean every heavy chose to depart off the much longer Rwy 34L here at Sydney.
Man talk frustrating.76's 73's by the dozen and not a single 74 which is what i have been hanging to get some shots of.
Anyway last weekend decided to go down on the off chance that one of the afternoon departures was running late and maybe a small change of luck.
Well it was standard fare with all the 744's going off rwy 34L until late in the hour when a SQ 744 called for pushback with a QF one right behind.
Lo and behold they are both going to Rwy 25.
Just incredible after 2 months of waiting i am finally in the right place and the right time.
The light was great with some great colors in the sky.
Anyway i got several pretty reasnoble photo's two of which i am pretty stoked with.
Love the great colors in this with a beautiful sky in the background and it turned out exactly how i wanted(for a change!!).

The other one of a SQ 744 departing is a bit special with a huge gust rolling through the crew came pretty close to dragging a pod and a shot i am most happy with to say the least.
This photo is early in the roll and the aircraft continued to roll through the rotation.
Pity with the poor light none of the later shots came out as well.

Anyway thought i would just share a small story about being lucky finally and
I guess persistence pays off.
Anyone else got one of those persistence pays off stories to go along with mine??
Share.
Bye for now

Wow Big grin Those are some amazing shots  Smile

I know how you feel, however my persistance was with security rather than operations...

I tried for days to get up to Terminal 2 Car Park without being booted off...

Then one evening I was up there and didnt get hassled. I managed to get shit loads of departures where as in the past I had been stuck with 320's before being booted off just before that SQ 744 lined up. Grrr!. This time I had all these heavies lining up and it was one of the best evenings of shooting that I had ever had.

Cool shot of the Pokemon machine!!
Luck plays a big part but like in your example i think its perserverance which makes the luck fall your way at some point.
Look forward to seeing your other shots in the queue.
