Some Advice On These Photos

Tue Jun 29, 2004 9:45 pm

I took these photos today using a 4MP Kodak DX6490.

However, I am unsatisfied with the quality. They seem soft and it appears they have a considerable amount of JPEG compression yet I photographed them in the highest quality mode (4MP).

I resized these to around 1024 width and I sharpened them once:

Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem? Is the DX6490 just not a good camera for action photography?

Again, they were taken in the highest quality mode setting, but I was surprised at the amount of JPEG compression. You can't see the JPG compression as much anymore since I resized it.

But it still seems soft and unclear.

Does it simply require unsharp mask? I'm on a laptop right now and on vacation so I don't have Paint Shop Pro. As a result, I am using Irfanview which only does a regular sharpen mode.

If the photos simply need unsharp masking, then I'll work on them when I'm back home on my PC which has Paint Shop Pro.

However, I have a feeling they are just bad photos...but I can't figure out why. The lighting was perfect.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

They're awfully small in the frame, and cropping would probably destroy the quality.

I'm not sure if using USM would help much.

The object ( the aircraft ) is way too far away... try to get closer somewhere...
