"Hardest" Airline For You To Photograph?

Tue Jun 29, 2004 11:25 pm

I'm wondering what is your hardest airline to get a photo of. Always I have trouble or mess up with Lufthansa, KLM, and British Airways. Don't know why but It seems I always chop the nose or tail off of them.

Still going for BA but I got LH and KLM surpricingly well the other day......

BMI Hybrid 'gray belly' colours, and Flybe Q400's in glossy white. The finish on the aircraft seems to be so smooth that all the detail is incredibly hard to pick out in many lighting conditions, and it's easy to blow the highlights.

I got a q400 I was finally happy with recently accepted, but I think the BMI livery will evade me..

Never caught one on the ground, and when they've been in the air, I've never got the underside looking sharp either.

In the interest of a shameless plug, here's the Q400.

I understand that it just looks like a regular white aircraft, but the finish is so smooth they almost look like buffed plastic. 146's on the other hand have so much craggy detail that they photograph really well.

Icelandair - I've noticed on a few occasions at MCO it's come in with a little daylight left. Summer time is the best chance to get it here though.

BA and Varig. Because of the contrast between belly and top.

Hardest for me is probably UA old scheme in questionable weather. The grey just blends right into the background.

Old & new BMI and (now old) UA... Somehow they almost never come out nice for me.

The brigth green of Song makes the shots look overexposed, and the gray of United jsut makes all the blue/gray/yellows in the shot look wrong.

As soon as I saw this thread I thought "BMI".

I am glad that someone else is having problems with BMI's livery. I have never got any worth putting up for screening of either the old or the new. Having said that, I have got two of theirs in Star Alliance livery.

The old just comes out too dark on the underside and the new is very difficult to get right with the contrast and highlights., though I do like the contrasting blues on the main fusalage logo - it looks great when it reflects the light sometimes.

US Airways has been my nemisis. The white lettering on black never seems to come out sharp. I guess I should be glad I don't live in Pittsburgh, Philiadelphia, or Charlotte.

From the looks of this thread, if I lived in Europe, I am sure BMI would be difficult for me as well.

People used to moan a lot about the JMC colour scheme and how hard it was to get the green tail to look right, on prints especially.

Hardest one for me is LOT at Manchester. It comes in at 9:50pm so just about all the year it's dark when it lands. Hard for me to get to the airport early for when it goes as well.

Malev. For one thing, it's only found in one place in this country thus far: JFK. I can only get shots of the magyar airline when I'm actually in Hungary or at least elsewhere in Europe. It's a pity too because I'm Hungarian and I can rarely get good shots of their aircraft!
