Sat Jul 03, 2004 9:20 am

Hi I was wondering what is the best 35mm print film and camera settings,(Shutter speed, aperture) For a fully manual 35mm slr. (Canon Ae-1 Program)

Thanks!

There is no such a thing as THE BEST. If there was a perfect shutter speed, wouldn't all cameras have it by default?
You have to be more specific...

Just as the other guy said, there is no BEST. Especially for aperture and shutter speed settings. Just keep in mind, the larger the aperture, the faster your shutter speed, and the more the background will be blurred out. The smaller the aperture, the slower your shutter speed will be, but you'll have a clearer background.

As for film, I like Fuji Reala and Agfa Optima. Fuji Reala is a very good, fine grain film. However, it is low contrast, which means your photos will not have punchy colors. The Agfa Ultra is a high contrast film which usually produces very punchy colors. The only problem with it is it sometimes has small brown spots on the photos, thus making it necessary for digital touch up.

Here are a couple photos taken with different films. The first two are taken with Fuji Reala and the bottom two are taken with Agfa Optima.
