Posting Photos

Mon Jul 12, 2004 2:19 pm

Hi,

Is there a way of putting photos/screenshots on a post direct from your computer? There only seems to be info on posting shots from this or other websites and I'm not sure how to go about it.

Thanks and regards,

SevenHeavy

If you have your computer running 24/7 with a webserver program running on it with your photos linked through a website or just as a directory list. You might be able to use an ftp server, but the client (a.net) won't necessarily open it and display it. Beware, however, that if you then get lots of people trying to download the photo from your computer then your ISP might get stroppy about bandwidth and your computer might object/hang.

AFAIK, you won't be able to have a link to file://c:myphoto.jpg, or whatever because that will only refer to the local computer (as far as a.net is concerned).

Thanks for the info. Does this mean then that a.netters who post say trip reports with pictures on them first load all the picture onto a web page? If so can anyone recommend one to use as I am having a little trouble!!! Smile

Thanks again,

Yes, they'll be online somewhere. There should be plenty of online photo albums out there.

http://www.pbase.com/ seems to be fairly popular with other photography forums

If you right click on the photos in the trip reports you should be able to get the image locations so you can go and see which ones are free, how much storage space you get, how much bandwidth there is, what size of picture you can save, etc.

I use http://www.photobucket.com, which is also free. It's very handy to have a place to keep your pictures when you want to link to them, etc. A good feature of photobucket albums is that the url and HTML tag of each image are written below the thumbnail for easy linking.
