Best Accessory For 300D/rebel

Mon Jul 19, 2004 3:30 am

I've just got a Canon BG-1 battery grip for my D Rebel and can tell you that it absolutely transforms the feel and handling of the camera. It screws onto the bottom just like an old motor winder would and holds 2 batteries. There is also the additional functionality of an extra shutter release button and minor controls for use when in portrait style.

I LOVE it! Anyone else feel the same?

I have one too, with a sidestrap, and I've had it since day one. When at the camera shop, I really hate the feel of an SLR without the grip and sidestrap, it just feels out of place and seems like it would be easily dropped.

An IS lens is also a must for this camera. It makes a HUGE difference. Personally, I'm saving up for a 100-400 L IS lens. Hopefully soon I'll have one!

Andrew,

You don't really need IS. For sure, it's useful, but for most conditions a good-quality zoom will suffice. I've got a 70-200 F4 L and frankly it flatters my ability. Even in poor conditions the lens remained fast and performed better than I could hope for.

Cheers

I have this also, and like it a lot. It is my lens of choice for close in shots. Cant beat the quality.

I couldn't agree more. If there's one thing that lets the 300D/rebel down is the plastic body. Be nice to be able to afford the 10 but hey, you can't have everything!

John,
just make sure you put some money into the glass. It makes a big difference. I am glad I spent the extra $700 to get the Canon 100-400mm over the Sigma 170-500mm.

The plastic body is only bad if you drop it. I am sure the 10D would have some damage also.

Why do people insist on picking on the 300D because of it's plastic body? Who cares that it's plastic? So the 10D is metal! If you drop it, you may only damage the lens, electronics, viewfinder, shutter, flash, etc... but by God the frame is still intact?!

I have the 300D and I've not dropped it yet (thanks largely to my battery grip and sidestrap), and I don't plan to drop it ever. It could be made of cardboard for all I care! In fact, I've used it for over seven months now and there's still not a scratch on it! And it takes amazing photos! "BADQUALITY, BADSCAN, and BADSOFT" are things of the past!!!

By the way, some dumba$$ at Best Buy tried to get me to buy the 300D they had on display back when I was shopping for one. He told me that it was actually a much better value than the 10D because of it's titanium frame. Yeah, ok buddy. The silver case of the 300D is titanium. Idiot!
