What Is Up With This!?!

Thu Aug 12, 2004 12:16 am

Hey,

I am going to speak on Eric's behalf since he is away. He has two photos labeled 'currently in screening' that have been that way for over a week. There is even a thread he started about them all the way back on August 3rd!
http://www.airliners.net/discussions/aviation_photography/read.main/142557
http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/show_photos_in_queue.main?email=ericdsmith@comcast.net&date=2004-08-03

Then this appears with a banner: http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?id=634574,634575&engine_version=5

What is that? If I were him, I would be extremely frustrated that my pictures did not get the treatment they deserved and then have someone else get the banner, especially for a special oppirtunity like this!

those pictures were added to the que at the same time as Eric's, and they didn't need to be reworked over and over.

Eric had a little difficulty getting the images just right quality wise if I remember. They are not quite the same level as Art's.

But why are they still in the August 3rd queue. My point is, they have been 'currently in screening' since August 3rd, meaning a screener has already taken a look at them, but another has not done so yet. Unlike these, taken Aug 5 and added the 6th, which is days after Eric's photos got through the first screening process. If they had been screened, he could have gotten reworked images in faster.

Well, what I will say will probably not answer your question, but I would like to voice my opinion here. The pictures you are referring to have already been rejected for low quality. When discussed in this forum, they were said to be way too dark.

Which appears to be still the case.

Plus, I see here two almost identical pictures of the same aircraft ploaded at the same time. Don't you think that with over 14,000 (14,000) pictures in the queue the screeners have better to do than decide which is the best between two next to identical shots (and such a decision takes more time than screening two different shots of two different aircraft).

As for the banners, had the shots been A.net material to start with, I am sure the banner would have been his. Heck, I almost got a banner two weeks ago with a new aircraft in a new livery in AMS. But that would have meant my editing the pic on my nast laptop with its nasty screen. And the shot would probably have been A.net material, but it would not have been up to my standards, so... did not do it. I saw the banner the next day, another photographer had nailed the aircraft elsewhere and had uploaded faster than me. Oh well, that's not the end of the world, is it ?

cheers,

Let's just put it this way. Art has 'paid his dues', Eric needs a little more exprience.

Did Eric email the screeners asking for priority screening?

Perhaps they are still in the queue because they're still regarded as marginal, meaning more than three screeners have already looked at them (I have not got the time to look myself, so this is just a hypothesis, albeit a potentially valid one). If this is the case, no telling when they might pop out of the other end of the process, be the result accept or reject.

In any case, I believe we have achieved resolution with Eric regarding the banner, and the way he requested it. His pictures may well have been linked to the banner had (a) the upload been handled in an acceptable manner and equally important (b) the original pictures had been up to standard - even for "new" subjects we are careful to apply standards if the subject is likely to become common.

In the mean time, whilst Eric was reprocessing his pictures, Art came along with some images that were immediately acceptable. There was never a problem about this aircraft getting the banner - it was merely a question of who could deliver the right results in the best way.

Oh wow, a whole thread about me!

Anyway, about the me not getting the banner thing, I'll deal. I just don't like to sit there and stare at my "pictures in screening" while somebody else gets his in.

And I'll even admit, the pictures kinda suck now that I look at them, but it would have nice to have had the pictures rejected before art's got in the database, at least that way I know my pictures have been looked at.

Arts pics are definetly better than mine, and more power to him I hope they serve him well. I'll see you guys next week when I get back.
