Experience With Generic Battery Packs For The 300D

Tue Aug 24, 2004 11:28 pm

Hello,
I was wondering if you could help me with my decision about a new battery pack for my 300D.
I have only one BP-511 so far and when I'll be in the US in September I'm sure that I will take a lot of photos and because of that I need some more battery power for my camera.
I was wondering if it is worth it to buy the original Canon BP-511 which would cost me around 70€ or if a generic BP-511 for around 15-20€ is good enough.

Have you made any experiences. What can you recommend.
Every answer is appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Alex

No, In my opinion it's not worth it. I use generics in my 10d and they last longer then the OEM. But, YMMV. Do you think your 300d can tell the difference?

I recently purchased two generics for my 300D, and they work great. I paid about $24.00 for both of them shipped.

Goto www.pricegrabber.com, search for bp511, and look for the store called SterlingTek. That is where I bought from, and recieved the batteries quickly.

Hi.

I've been using a 1250 mAh battery from Soligor along with the BP-511 that came with my 300D. I find that the Soligor battery is an excellent battery at almost half the price of the Canon BP-511 (at least here in Iceland).

There is now available a new 1400 mAh battery from Soligor which is comparable to the new BP-511A from Canon. .

In my opinion the Soligor is a good value for the money.

I have the original Canon BP-511 battery that came with the 300D camera. I also have two non original BP-511 batteries bought brand new (Still sealed) from E Bay and as regards life etc of the charge I cannot notice any difference between them.

Do a search on www.ebay.co.uk for 'BP-511' there are plenty on there for sale some selling for as little as £3

Hope this helps

I use a couple of generic 511's from 7dayshop and they work a treat. I'd previously also bought a Canon original and honestly wished i handn't bothered at all.

I use 2 generics in the 300D grip and they give me a good couple of sessions shooting and LCD review before giving up.

I use the Battery Grip for my 300D, with a pair of non-OEM batteries I bought on E-Bay. To date, I've never seen a low battery warning, and I've gone on some really long trips without my charger. The generic batteries do outlast the Canon battery, and are definately available for MUCH better prices. I paid $19.95 USD for a pair of non-OEM BP-511's. I'd highly reccommend them!

Check out a Ebay seller called EverydaySource. I bought two of their off-brand BP-511s and had them shipped to me for $16. I keep my Canon BP-511 in my bag and I have not had to put it in the camera since I bought the cheap replacements. Yesterday I took 207 shots, using IS on all of them, checking the histogram on most of them, and the battery indicator never went below full. Im using the grip also btw...

Hello,
thanks for all your replies.
I did it like you and ordered a generic on the German ebay.
It should arrive the next few days and then I'll see.

Cheers
Alex
