Handling The End Of An Aircraft

So it's been learned over the past few days that ATA will be selling or transferring leases of their 738s and selling their gates at MDW.

The ATA 738 is my favorite aircraft, and seeing an end to this is, pathetically, hitting me hard.

Since ATA's LGA routes are to MDW, (PIE is already ending soon anyway), I'm in a panic about which will come first, the end of the 737s from them at LGA, or just the end of LGA operations altogether for them.

I really don't have a lot of time, but I'd like to "fleet" all 33 ATA 737s by the time they die out.

How have you more seasoned folks ever handled the end of your favorite airline or aircraft? The Concorde was sad and all, but I didn't have the attachment to it like I did here.

Going to LGA after this will be a lot more boring and sad. What aircraft will take over as my favorite? probably AA 757).

Just try and use every oppurtunity to the fullest. Get supershots which will remember the planes for you. I have seen the KLM 747-200s go, which was sad, but, it made way for new planes, like the 777 and in time, the A330. Every setback has an advantage...

Hey, book the ultimate ATA extravaganza...a trip to MDW from LGA on their 738 specifically to attempt to document the entire fleet of '73s. Whether or not you get what you wanted, it's something you won't soon forget. Maybe Ryan C. Umphrey'll have some advice.

It's just a bit more feasable for you than it was for the folks that wanted to get a seat on Concorde.

You've done a good job getting different views of these guys (wish I could say the same for my QF '74s). Wietse is right, though, that there's definately something to look forward to in the long run...


...winglet-equipped 757s?  Wow!

Isn't ATA stating that they are not leaving MDW and not eliminating all the 737-800's? That was the last I heard.

Ok, so it all ended up being a big rumor that got WAY out of hand.

However, I am still in love with ATA 737s and I am still highly motivated about "fleeting" them.

I also can't get over this shot. Wow.

Ya thats too bad ill miss seeing them at LGA also... if you love it so much take Futtermans advice and book yourself a trip to MDW! They have pretty LOW fares!

phil you're not alone in the love of the TZ 738. every time i see one i just stop and watch it. same with any 767 or bizjet!
