Filter For 17-40

Fri Aug 27, 2004 2:25 am

Hi All

Looking to purchase the 17-40 4.0 and I was wondering if it's worth getting the B+W slimeline filter. On their website they state it is specifically designed for wideangle lenses as wide as 17mm. Worth spending the xtra 20 bucks or not?

Thanks
Tim

I would slap a filter on to protect the glass. B+W is the only way to go.

Royal,

The issue is, is it worth to go the extra 20 bucks for this special B&W filter, or just stick with the normal filter?

Tim,

cant you find any reviews on the web?

I understand the issue. really, I do Big grin

The extra slim filters are aimed at the film crowd, as the vingetting will occur on the edges, which a DSLR wont see. I would spend the extra dosh on the B+W, they make the best stuff.

I've got the Canon EF 17-40 and use a B+W normal UV filter. No problems with that filter.

Hi Tim
None of the reviews i have ever read on the 17-40 talked about any vignetting with filters and i have read a few.

Thanks for the replies. Read some reviews elsewhere and people seem to have no problems with the regular filters, so I'll just get the normal B+W I have on all my lenses.

Thanks

Also what I know is, that a lens cap won't fit on the slimline filters.
