Camera/Lens Set-up Critique

Sun Aug 29, 2004 10:04 am

Well, after lots of saving and budgeting, my dream is about to become reality!  Big thumbs up

Please critique the following preliminary set-up - suggestions and tips are much appreciated! Thanks!

---------------
Canon EOS 20D w/18-55mm kit lens
Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS
Canon 1.4X teleconverter
Canon 2.0X teleconverter
Sandisk 1GB Ultra II CF card (X 2?)
Canon BG-E2 battery grip
2 X Canon BP-511A batteries (for battery grip)
B & W or Tiffen clear protection filters and/or UV filters (?)
Lowepro Nova 2 AW shoulder bag
---------------

Cheers,

Okay, that's what I gathered...

However, B&W doesn't seem to have clear protection filters - or B&H just doesn't carry them. Do they exist? And, should I get clear filters as opposed to UV filters? Or get both?

Cheers,

Get clear, neutral density and polarizers. And get a red and yellow if you plan to shoot any black and white (not entirely necessary but easier to just do this in-camera than trying to mimic the results later in Photoshop).

Most film photographers I know use UV filters for protection (I used to also) but UV filtering is not necessary for digital cameras so clear makes more sense. Just get a Tiffen, I really don't think the brand is a big deal in clear filters.

Wow, that'll be a nice kit bag. A future upgrade would perhaps be to replace the kit lens with the 17-40L f4. Although, when i used the kit lens in LAX recently it produced some very good results with a 300D.

I dont know much about filters, so forgive me if im talking crap.

Is there much point in getting a b&w filter if the 20D is able to shoot in black and white format?

Otherwise, great setup!
