MEX Spotter Meet-up On Oct.11

Sun Sep 19, 2004 2:06 pm

Hi Folks:

Though it is still three weeks to go, I am going to be stopping by MEX for the spotting on October 11. Because I am hearing not good story about the safety there, it would be nice if I could have other spotters meeting-up.
I am planning to be at Hangares Metro station in the morning and move to famous bridge near McDonald’s.
If anyone interested in, please mail me or post here.

I am also planning a re-visit of MEX after LAX and LV in late October/early November

Does anyone know where those AeroCalifonia DC9 fly to from LAX?? I like to ride with them if possible.

Toksans

Monday October 11th...! Perfect! I go to school from 7am till 2pm... I arrive to my home at 3pm... I could be at Mac Donald's bridge around 330/4pm... but by October after 3pm your best option still is runway 05s @ Hangares Avenue...

Sam,

Glad to know you are returning to MEX!

JR flies from LAX to:

LAP (La Paz)
SJD (Los Cabos)
MZT (Mazatlán)
PVR (Puerto Vallarta)
ZLO (Manzanillo)
HMO (Hermosillo)

You make a stop but all their flight are schedule to continue to end at MEX.

If fares are all the same in all destinations let me recommend you to land @ Los Cabos! Best place on earth... and IMHO.... better than CUN! More over if you come in November your chances of getting clear skies increase in a 100% compared to October.

Let me know about your dates so we can meet and spot together....

Toksans:
Yeap, great to know we have some visits!
October is a fine month here.. its usually blue skies and lots of sun.
Might have a little of rain in the first half though.

I'm not sure about the Mc in the afternoon, it might be better to stuck with the hangares Av all day long. Be sure to find a map and a complete reference at http://www.apm-group.com.mx.
I'll be very glad to meet you. But Monday is the only day I can't get off from college till 7pm. Are you planning on another day?

Sam:
Its great to know you are planning on visit MEX again. You might want to try some different angles form your first visit. We have a great spot that I'm sure you'll like a lot.

Richardo and Juan,

Thank you for your advice. I will be at Hangares Ave. until 5pm.
Regretfully, October 11 is only available day so far. I am arriving on Sunday from Chihuahua with MX1217 and leave for Teotihuacan on October 13.

I am looking forward to seeing you soon.

Hi Juan,

I sent a message a couple days ago. Did you receive it ?
I am concerned that the mail does not reach you.

Hi Juan and Ricardo

I will let you know, you guys have some AMAZING photo from MEX! That made me want to re-visit. It will be a side trip down from LAX

In NOV, is there many good spot good for the lighting or just one or two. I remember there was a grand stand and seems only a summer time spot??

I also hope some new opportunity like the KLM night shot, a winner shot in all ways.

Which way do departures normally go from MEX...I ask just cause I'd like to know which side of the plane to sit on to get a good view of the big 3 volcanoes, if possible?

Thanks,

Susumu:
Yeap, sorry I was out for the weekend... Check your mail now!

Sam:
November guarantees good weather although not all of the spots.. Anyways we will show you the best places around for shure including night shots spots with tons of heavies departing late.

Greg:
On departure planes normally will takeoff from runway 05 from here till maybe Jan or Feb. So you want to be seated on the right part of the plane (meaning seats D,E,F in a normal A320 or so) to watch the volcanoes. The terminal though is on the other side.
On arrival trust me you want to be seated on an "A" window seat... You will experience a very nice final turn to the localizer.

Thanks, I did get an "F" seat for departure, but unfortunately there was a somewhat low ceiling...however, while sitting in the domestic terminal, looking straight out across the runways, in the distance I could see the lower flanks of what appeared to be a very big mountain...any idea which one that was???
