Pilot Sees Photo Of Himself.

Mon Sep 20, 2004 11:49 am

Got an email from the FO in the picture below. He said he expected that the photo would end up on a.net. Kinda cool.

Definitely a great shot Tim.

Too bad it was not a hot chick-pilot.

Ahhh - - the possibilities...  Big thumbs up

I got an email from the FO in this shot telling me that after looking at his log book that he was the guy in the left seat. He wanted a close up of the nose so that he could show his kids a picture of himself flying.

I knew he would try to find a pic of himself so I decided to upload it and indeed he contacted me shortly after appearance on A.net.

Ok. I had to ask this about the original picture. Why not badpeople??? The pilot is easily recognizable!

Happened to me twice, coincidentally on the same plane (N223NW), different crew. I sent them a print and they were very happy to see themselves. Some people in the pilot-association of NW are well aware of Airliners.net. It's quite cool!

Eduard,

Did you mean you sent them a print without notifying them or only after they requested it?

If the former, how would you know where to send it to?

Thanks.

Airbus_lover,

The pilots emailed me about the fact that they were on those flights. The guy in the right picture actually saw me. He's an instructor close to retirement and was training a new FE. The guy in the left picture was also a 'newbee' (FO) on the DC10 and was too busy taxiing so he didn't see me.  Smile
Actually, come to think of it, I didn't technically sent them prints, but I offered them an edited JPG of the picture for them to print themselves. I trust these guys are not likely to take advantage of the picture so I didn't worry too much about copyright.

Eduard

I had emails from different pilots already. The one captain, I remember now is a Belair captain, who I happened to put here twice, once on his first Belair flight, and a second time on 31.12.2002. He wrote, how it was on arrival, seeing all those new year fireworks:

Another email was from an Iberworld A320 captain, who was already about to take off, when this B747SP started his go around

He wrote me, why the B747SP had do do that go around.

This has happened to me several times as well, it's very rewarding to have a crewmember or pilot write you and tell you how much he enjoyed seeing a photo of him in the cockpit on airliners.net! One guy said he remembered seeing me shooting photos of him!

Here are the ones who have written to me:  Big thumbs up

Yeah, it's always nice to get such comments from the flight crew. I also had several ones...

Maybe not as good as a commercial usage request, but still nice to be complimented by someone who was flying the plane!

Pilot saw 'his' landing here and asked for the whole landing sequence, which I gladly sent him.

I received an email about this picture:

from one of the crew, Systems Operator Bill Matley. Unfortunately, I have been unable to contact him because his e-mail address was from a Hotmail account and if I send a reply it bounces. Apparently this is a problem for lots of people trying to contact Hotmail addresses recently - does anyone here know how to get around this problem?

So, Bill (or anyone who knows him), if you read this, I appreciate your comments and would like to reply, but can't! Send me another e-mail contact address and I'll reply!

Best regards,

Jim

No pilots have sent me emails regarding any of my photos, but I do know how to get around the hotmail problem, sort of. You have to set your junk-mail protection to low. I did that, and I do get the occasional 4-5 junk emails daily, but at least the emails I want do come through!

This FO e-mailed me says he was in the right seat of this aircraft. He said the flight crew was excited because they saw a group of 4 photographers (including myself) on one side and another 2 photographers on the other side of the aircraft. He snapped a photo of the other two photographers on the right side, but couldn't get any of my group (without driving the aircraft off the taxiway).

LHSebi:

Thanks for your help! So to get a mail through to Mr Matley, he needs to drop his Hotmail security levels, but because I can't get a mail through to him, I can't tell him to drop his security levels, so that he can receive my e-mail.

Am I right ?  Wink/being sarcastic

Regards,

Jim

Received an e-mail shortly after this photo was uploaded to the database. The pilot told me it was his first landing as FO with the 757 and asked me a copy of the picture. Made it for him so I think it has a nice place at his home.
