CPH Photography 11/11/04

Sun Nov 07, 2004 9:17 am

On Thursday November 11th 2004, I'll be visiting CPH for just one day (arrival from BRU at 10h00, flight back to BRU at 17h15).

I've already found some websites with good reports, but I was wondering if any local CPH spotter/photographer could give me some extra tips concerning good spots. I want to be well-prepared so I once I arrive at CPH I can head directly for my spot that day.

I know that the Flyvergrillen around 04L/22R should be pretty good for photography. Due to the short amount of time I'll spend at CPH I think I'll just take a tax to/from this bar. By the way, is it also possible to take shots from airborne aircraft from there, or only rolling/taxiing aircraft? Are there also other spots I should consider for, let's say, pictures à la Hatton Cross at LHR?

Around what time should I expect some landing/departing widebodies and/or interesting traffic that's typical for CPH (Air Greenland, SAS widebodies,...)?

If any fellow A.net photographer is interested in showing me around that day (the locals always know the best places for every type of photography and prevailing meteorological conditions), feel free to do so.

Greetings,
Ivan

PS: How cold does it get at CPH around these days anyway?

Temperature around/slightly above freezing, medium to good chance of fog/rain/winds. The temperature is not as much of a bad guy as the winds, they will blow right thru your bones nomatter what clothes you wear.
If you are lucky you catch a calm and sunny autumn day, but they are rare.

I'll go for the calm and sunny autumn day, like the one we're having over here in BRU today  Wink/being sarcastic If the weather is bad, at least I've had another flying experience (for free, by the way).

AndersNilsson:

Thanks for the links. It's going to be either the 'Flyvergrillen' or the 'Kystvejen' spot. Both seem to be equally good, although the latter has better lighting conditions when the sun shines over CPH.

By the way, is it in CPH as in BRU and many other European airports, i.e. that most heavies arrive in the early morning and depart back around noon? If so, I'll go to the best spot to watch the heavies take off.

Ivan

Correct, but at CPH some heavys will arrive from far east and US in the afternoon, around 1400 to 1700 you will get at least 3-5, not very sure about the figures, heavy SAS arrivals.
If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough

Christian,

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll go for takeoff shots before noon and go for some landing shots in the afternoon (planning on returning to the airport by 15h45).

Greets,
Ivan

Just a small update:

The weather forecast seems not too bad for thursday, with partially clouded skies and temperatures around 5°C.

I think 22L/22R will be in use, so if the sun is shining, I'm going to take some landing shots at 22L first and around noon or so I'll head for the Flyvergrillen since the lighting at that spot will be better by then.

If 04L/04R should be in use, I can have some takeoff shots first and then head to the Flyvergrillen for shots of landed aircraft.

Oh well, we'll see...

Greetings,
Ivan
