BP-511A - The Ultimate Battery?

Wed Nov 10, 2004 5:26 pm

Heyhey,
I have been shooting with my 20D since end of September and the BP-511A battery still hasn't needed recharging (photo sessions in DUB, CDG and GVA in the process).
Is it the 20D that requires less power or the BP-511A that is awesome ?

Will

How many pictures have you taken, 200?
I have a 20D also but after 900 pics the bad realy is dead. Unless I use my BP-511 Ultra bats then I can take 1000.

Wow, I'm impressed by your 511A capacity. Something is wrong! heheheh

Do you use the LCD monitor often? Do you take many photos with flash? These 2 devices drain too much power from the batteries.

I have an old BP-511 and a new BP-511A. The old 511 lasts a whole HARD day of spotting (say, using it all day from sunrise to sunset, taking about 250 pics, and using the LCD to review all them and delete the bad ones, and at the end of the day review them at home). The new 511A must have 2 times the capacity of the old, is incredible... But still it doesn't lasts 2 months for me  Smile

No flash and no reviewing of pics with the LCD...maybe that explains it, along with the Rhaa of autumn weather  Sad

The battery that cames with the camera shoots about 350 pictures. I bought an aftermarket Maxell that lasts forever and a day. I've used it for two days straight and still has juice left. The Maxell costs about 38.00 while the Canon costs $65.00. I bought two of the Maxells

The BP-511A is only 1390mAh which is more then the BP-511. The BP-511 Ultra's I have are 1500mAh. I did a full day of spotting at AMS and a festival at night and shot a total of 800 pics on that Ultra bat. the last 250 about 75% with flash. The 511A usualy lasts a day or 2. I try not to use the 511A bat, only in case of emergency. I also got a fast charger which charges them in 30 to 45 minutes. So when I get home bats are ready to go agian.

Can a 511 be used in place of the 511A? I got a 511A with my 20D, and am a little hesitant on using something different, in case something goes wrong.

Sure you can. It will just run out of juice faster than the BP511A.

I bought a pair of aftermarket BP-511A's off E-Bay when I bought my Digital Rebel. I keep a pair of them in the camera at all times, and I keep the original Canon battery in the bag. In the past year (almost), I've not once seen a low battery warning. Even on trips where there have been several days of spotting - there was no need to swap or charge batteries.

Incidentally, my BP-511A's are marked 1800 mAh. I paid $19.00 for a pair of them.

Are these the batteries you see for like 10 bucks on ebay? or are these Actual Canon Brand batteries that must be ordered seperately?

Thanks,
Adam

Is it OK to use both a 511 and a 511A in the grip at the same time or will this cause camera damage given the different MA?

Ua935-

I've mixed and matched my batteries in my grip - it's never been a problem.
