Is On Zoom Lens

Hey guys,

im not that experienced with more prof. lenses and have tried looking everywhere but i just cant seem to find it, think it has to do something with light.

What does IS stand for and what does it do?

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM (also IS)

I hope i posted in correct place!

Image stabilizer, a group of lens elements can move to counteract camera shake.
