Another good place to go is the Delta/Comair office building parking lot. I'm not sure if you are really supposed to park there or not, but for short term viewing/photography its great and a lot closer than the provided viewing area. I'm not sure if it's L or R, (kind of new at the observing) but its very close to the intersection of 18 & 36. Usually CRJs are taking off to your right (about 50 feet off the ground by the time they are seen from behind the building) and the larger planes (737s, MDs, 757s, 767s, etc) are landing/taking off directly in front of you. You definitely get a better sound experience being that close. The best part is when a DHL 727 takes off or lands. Those are really noisy! Mostly all Delta planes, but they still operate a lot of 737-200s which are great! I sometimes see an Air France A340 at the terminal, but have no idea when to be there to see it arrive or leave. I'll have to try out the parking garage next time I go. BTW, I've never been hassled by security while viewing at CVG
, although I don't give them any reason to. The only time I've seen someone getting attention was when a guy had a huge camera tripod set-up in the provided viewing area. I guess they thought he was going to slap a gun on it or something. But, the security people have a job to do, can't complain there!
