LHR Spotting Group

Thu Nov 25, 2004 5:17 am

Hey Guys,

I had a word with Martin Aves about a LHR Spotting group...for example like Flo's TCAS.
Anyways..he said shoot a message on the forums about it...So I was wondering if any of you'd be interested.

I'll be getting my new D70 over the Christmas period and so therefore will be making more trips to the airport to do spotting.
1. My mum works at Cardinal Point...the red building on your right when landing on 27R

I was just interested to see if anybody would be interested in something like this?

Thanks
Mike

Hmmmm interesting Idea I used to be one of the Regulars till recently think there are enough Airneters to form an Airnet LHR group if that's what you're idea is?

Nice idea Mike, I'll certainly be willing to join such a group. Admittedly, living down here in Plymouth has meant I haven`t been to LHR for a couple of months now, but I will be heading up there next Monday to fly LHR-FRA-BCN and 'christen' my 300D with some real action. Big grin A search through the database should give you an idea who the regulars are,

Hey Dan,

Have a nice trip...so if an LHR group was formed...you certainly would be willing to join in?
Yep..I'm just interested to see if people are willing to do something like this and if so...perhaps we could come to some arrangements to form one.
I'll keep checking back and seeing who the regulars at LHR are.

Enjoy your trip and take shots!

With so many Heathrow photographers, I think you'll find a few people interested in joining.

As for me, Ill give it a thought.

What do you mean by a group....

Do you mean get togethers etc etc as this is always painfully hard as (1) the weather at LHR is always so difficult to confirm in advance. And (2) most of the regular A.Net LHR photogs could be anywhere on a given day if the weather for once is good.....

Or are you talking about setting up a group who whould try to cover whats going on at LHR. So when a poto is downloaded to A.Net it would say (photogs name) + LHRPHOTO GROUP for example ????

Like Simon Nicholls let me know in a bit more detail what you mean and i will think about it  Smile

I'm talking about the second idea you were explaining. For example..TCAS

So we set up a group that covers the LHR area.

Ok...erm..

Let me explain a little better.

For example....we create a group of anet members...we cover the area of LHR so that when you submit the photo's you have for example *Name* then - LHRspotters or something like that.

We organize days when we can all visit etc...a big group of LHR spotters that are under one group name.

Also...if I didnt accept germans...I can count myself out :P
I'm not one for not accepting people because of nationality or race..this is meant to be an equal world with equal opportunites. Everyone is welcome.

I hope I have enlightened this a litte more.

Well..I havent had a definate response from Martin yet...so maybe who knows him can give him a bell..if not I'll let him know about the topic.

I hope everyone has got information they wanted. Judging by this topic a few people are interested and I'm glad to see that.
If you need more information..please dont hesitate to ask...it would be great to have a crew member with us as well.
Im very willing to pitch in to have some webspace...perhaps we could find someone who would be willing to manage a site for us from anet..
It would be great to have a few more people so that we can really start baking the cake.

I think it is an interesting idea, but I am not sure I'd want to get involved in a spotting group. If it were called an "Photo" group - that would be a different idea.

I for one would be interested in meeting other people active around LHR - not that I get there that often any more. Also of interest would be getting one of the experienced members - or even London based A.net Screener crew - to do training sessions in Photoshop and processing. Taking a photo is one thing, but these days the biggest challenge seems to be post processing.

Now - on the other hand - I could host such an event in my offices at Pinewood Studios if there were enough interest. It's only 10 minutes by car from Heathrow - and would be an interesting exercise. I think with all the people changing over to digital, it could be a most worthwhile exercise.

Also, I am a reseller ISP - in other words I can provide a webspace, broadband and domain names at a very cheap price if anyone is interested.

Hi Thowman,

You work at Pinewood...awesome...maybe you could enlighten me as to what the Victorian Style building set is for then Big grin
I'm not quite sure if it should be called a photo group or spotting group. But..as you may have read...its just proposals and ideas for the moment.

I do like the idea of Photoshop training sessions for example...interesting and I'm sure as you say very worthwhile.
Obviously...it would be about aviation photography so as to why I suggested "Spotting" however I do see your point of view on that matter.

It was merely a suggestion and still has a long way to go...but as I explained before...input and suggestions are still the basis of great things.
Had newton not had the idea about sitting under an apple tree for example :-P

Thank you for your input..it is greatly appreciated.
Any other ideas, comments or suggestions?

Ok..I was not aware that there was already an "LHR Spotting Group"

Thank you for pointing this out. If there are any more ideas on names for the group please do mention them.
I do like the LHR Photo Group however I also like the idea for example like TCAS where its the name of a group and also the abbreviation for another aviation term. Quite clever I must admit.
Any members of the crew that are willing to participate in this?

Off topic - but the victorian set is for the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton. Have had their trailers outside my window for the last 2 weeks.

LHR Photo Group would be a good start. Spotting is something completely different.

Hehe...

The MAG...:D Certainly makes you laugh! Big grin

So...is this a go for a few people here? If so...perhaps we could start negociating a few other aspects.
Sukhoi...you interested?

So..for all those in favour and interested...if you just make a "serious" note at the bottom saying you are or arent..be most helpful just as so I can make a tally.
I'm brainstorming idea's for the name...so far I've thought of "Heathographers" :P or... "LHR Snappers" and even..."Heathrow Photographers Group" < however I do find this one a wee bit boring.
Also...if you dont mind parking in the Visitor Centre car park...you can walk up to near where the taxi rank is and take shots from there just next to CD or you can go in the WBC Car Parks and snap from there as well..if they're landing on 27R.

For me I go up to my mums office..but I cant open windows meaning that dirty windows do not provide good opportunites for photos Big grin
Any other suggestions?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) I proberly would be no use joining as i would never be able to get a photo onto a.net
2) i do not have a good camera
3) i can not come up any day as i live 1 hour and 30 mins away
4) i do not come up much (Although i should be coming up again soon)
5) You lot wouldn't want a 13 year old hanging around with you.

If we have the 'LHR Images' (or whatever) name after our actual names what happens when we add non LHR pictures? I'm all in favour of this but to be honest over half of my photography is from outside the UK even though I live pretty much next to LHR.

A picture of a Southwest 737 in Las Vegas (for example) has no connection to LHR so I'm not sure how that would work.

I would have thought that the best advert for the groups name would be to see it on A.Net.Just like Air team images for example.. Therefor imho it would need to be added to the photogs name on A.Net  Smile

Hey guys,

I like the idea of LHPG...sounds good. When you say for example shooting a SW 737 in LAS...take a look at Flo's...he's shooting in MUC and VIE but still puts the group name by the photos...same with Wolfgang.
Jimmi...like said before...National Express...Only £12 a ticket and besides...I'd let you use my D70  Big grin
Besides...I'm only 16 in Feb..
Simon C...we can use all the people we can get. And for Simon N...I'm not trying to force you to join :-P
*Races round to bank to take out money for 5 First Class Tickets to Australia if needed* hehe Big grin

I'd really like this to happen and to have something sorted..by like most things....unfortunately including my relationship Big grin Things do take time..
Everyones choice is their own and always and ultimately theirs...but I feel it would be good for anet to have something like this.
There are so many groups around for other airports...why not LHR?
So for those people that are with me *Listening to Top Gun theme* lets find a name that we can agree on and eventually we'll have a top notch group...which brings fantastic LHR photos everyime Big grin

Well...once we've come to a conclusion on the name...I suggest from the Following:
Heathographers
London Heathrow Photographers Group

or...

James's WANCERS lol

Then we can arrange something about a website...then the real deal...spotting and perhaps get a photoshop session arranged!
