Resizing Issues Can Someone Help

Mon Dec 06, 2004 8:39 pm

Im trying to get my first photo excepted on Anet .
Can someone tell me if resizing the picture to fit into the upload page would take away from the quality of the picture.
For instance my camera shoots at 2048x 1535 when i resize it to 1600x 1200 am i reducing the quality of the picture to the point where it wont get excepted for poor quality.
Sorry to ask a question like this but im new to the game and i know there is a lot of guys on here that are very good at what they do.
But if you may conceder im just new at this and i really do want to give it a go thanks for any help forwarded.

Downsizing tends to help on quality, not make things more difficult. If you're new to this game, I recommend you downsize to 1024 pixels across, not to 1600, as this will make things easier still. Remember you need to crop and rotate the image (for level etc.) before you downsize, andjJust remember to do the final bit of post-processing (unsharp mask in particular) after you've reduced the size of the image.

Thanks a lot for your help appreciated .
Say i had a 1MB picture and i downsized it further like you suggested and after its finished its only 500 Kb would that be considered low quality because of the kb size ?
Thanks again .

Size isn't important!!! Big grin As long as the end result is under 1mb, it can be uploaded here. One thing however, DO NOT under any circumstances reduce the quality of the image - always save at maximum quality. So, if your original as taken by the camera is 2mb and you reduce it to 1024 pixels across and the downized image comes out at 500kb at maximul quality then that's fine.

I think Andy means "harder still", not easier!

As he mentioned, if you're starting out (as you apparently are) with this photography thing  Big grin, just resize to 1024 pixels wide, and keep the aspect ratio locked. The appropriate height should insert itself if you are using PS. I for one have only uploaded a large photo once, since I thought it was of high enough quality, and it was a cockpit shot ontop of that, which made the detail interesting. Unless you see a real good reason why the pic should be so big, stick to 1024 wide. It makes it more pleasing to view on smaller monitors too, since you can see the whole pic at once! Not too many people have a resolution greater than 1600 pixels wide!  Laugh out loud

Good luck!

OK, look, its the sentence structure that's the issue, not what I said. Here, does this read better:

recommend you downsize to 1024 pixels across (not to 1600) as this will make things easier still.

...easier in this context meaning it will be easier to achieve a result at 1024 than it will be at 1600.

Sorry Andy, I didn't mean to sound mean or anything...perhaps I should have added a  Laugh out loud after my comment.
