We Sure Have Come A Long Way!

Tue Dec 07, 2004 7:59 am

Almost always, when uploading a new picture of mine to the queue, I browse through the images already in the database of the plane I'm about to add ...

This is usually just to check that there isn't many of the same aircraft already in the database, to avoid the "baddouble" rejection.

I often have to chuckle at previous uploads from years gone by, and are truly AMAZED at how far we've come in the last 3-4 years. Just thought I'd show one of my recent uploads (Self-plug !!  Wink/being sarcastic) ...compared to the Prince of Airliners.net ('cause he's 2nd at the moment.... Acting devilish), that being AirNikon !

No responses needed ..... just something to look at ...and a SELF-PLUG ! ..........Shaun

Indeed Shaun, great to see how things have changed.

Being a relatively new kid (1 Year) on the block I cant wait till I get my 1,000th then 2,000th and so on! Big grin

I also admire some of the stuff you shoot at SAN! Keep it up!

I still enjoy looking at everyone's "older" pics, you do find some interesting material!

I wonder where we will be in another few years time?

Things might be a little different for those uploaders that have been av/photographers for a long time, until they started to upload to the net.

Talking about myself - av/photog for 25 years now - the development is not so much photowise, as scanning/photoshop-wise...

Very well, I'll show you my very first upload, accepted on January 12, 2002

The oldest upload just happens to have been shot several years earlier than the latest one, I mention this as I usually mix my old and new shots while uploading.

the cool thing is to look at older stuff and see that the photographer new their stuff, even if the equipment wasn't as good they still knew how to take good photos. These 2 are still some of my very faves, Vegas makes it a lot easier.

Justin ...

Oh Man, I nearly died laughing when I saw your picture of the old Aloha Air 737 taken at the ramp at OGG ...

I don't know why it's funny but I think that just about every "bad-something" would apply to this picture today !! But still ..... I LIKE IT !!

Thanks for sharing everybody, as my Grandpa used to say .... Nostalgia, is not just a pretty word ......

(btw, I also like the stories of how for our first pics, most of us had to beg, borrow or steal somebody's old antique camera that was lying around ..... and NOW we're all running around with 20D's & D100's !!.....incredible !!)

Comparing earlier vs recent not only shows how far we've come perfecting our craft. I shows what got us interested to pursue this hobby and improve our skills. Even though the quality may not be there, many earlier images show planes, places, and events that can't be seen now. I still enjoy looking at my earlier images with fondness. You won't see them on Anet but they do bring a smile to me as I sort slides to scan.

Hi all,

I am enjoying this post and would like to join in. I only have 8 photos in the database but they span a relatively long time period. The first is still the one with the most hits:
