Spotting At DCA, And No Car

Wed Dec 22, 2004 12:15 pm

Hello,

I will be in the DCA area over the weekend in January. My photo won second in nationals and I get a free trip there! The problem is, I want to do some spotting, but we have no car to get around. Any ideas of where we can go and not get pestered by the local police?

Thanks,
Ryan

Gravelly POint..It's off the George Washington Parkway on the north side of DCA. Hundreds of locals and tourists gather there to watch planes and enjoy the weather.

You can shoot from the Concrete Terrace at the Terminal.. Just keep a low profile and dont wear a towel on your head and you should be alright.  Laugh out loud

Those are the best places for people without cars. YOu can catch the Washington Metro to the DCA Airport stop, and the terrace is like a 3 minute walk away. To walk from the Terrace to Gravely Point, just go down to the street, and walk north past the Airport OFfice buildings and hangers until you get on teh running trail... then its like Quartermile to the Park. All in all.. a 10 minute walk.

Ryan, when will you be up there? I am coming up to IAD on the 7th or 8th of Jan and will shoot for a day or two.. Possibly we can get together.

Good luck,
Adam

You can walk from the terminal at DCA to Gravelly Point...it's about a 15 minute walk by normal pace.

If you are from Denver then you shouldn't worry about the weather. Wear heavy jacket, gloves and you'll be fine. 10-15 minutes walk on the bikers trail will warm you up.
