Broken Digital Compact...

Tue Mar 01, 2005 5:18 am

My clumsy best mate dropped my Minolta Z2 today and broke the battery compartment door. I have sent it back to Minolta for a repair estimate, but I'm not hopeful that it can be repaired, as internal damage may have been done - although it did work after the impact - and that it may prove uneconomical to fix in any case.

Has anyone else had any experience of this, or similar, and what was the outcome?

Luckily it wasn't my Nikon D70 that got wrecked or my friend would have been a victim of GBH...! Anyway, he's paying for the damage.

If it still turns on then probably once they fix the battery door you will be good to go aside from a few case scratches. A friend had a similar thing happen to his 2MP Kodak point and shoot, it looks like hell, but it still works great. At any rate having a repaired camera is kind of like driving your car after its been repaired following an accident, it just doesn't feel "right" anymore.

i think it shouldn't be a problem..

i had a friend that snapped the lens on his Canon S50 (the lens pops out.. and he dropped it and the lens kinda bent.. couldn't retract back in)

they sent it to Canon and they only charged a VERY low fee... forgot but it wasn't a lot.. and now its working fine.. however, as noted above.. the camera looks like crap.. dents/scratches

Ok, thanks people. Luckily it's "only" my second camera, but it's a damn nuisance none-the-less. Hopefully I'll get it back in a couple of weeks.

Cheers.  Smile
