Aviation Photography Travel Vacation Help!

Wed Mar 02, 2005 10:02 pm

Hi all.
I have 10 days of holiday vacation coming up in mid March and I wanted to ask all the great aviation photographers on this forum if there is one travel place (other than St Maarten) where one should not miss going there.
Thanks.

i guess it depends what you like and what your budget is, if your primary aim is to shoot the shit outta everything flying then i'd say go to Japan, it's well worth the visit!

i'm going to Anchorage in about 7 weeks, you could go and do a recon mission for me, that way i'll know what to expect  Big grin

Heathrow might be nice over in London.. but the best i'd suggest is Hong Kong.. #1 airport in the world HKG, and you can see from the long list of photos from HKG, that it sure is worth the visit.. and when you're here in asia.. u can visit japan as well at the same time.. a few days in HKG, a few days in Japan.. great trip for spotting..

but of course, this might kinda thin out your wallet big time  Big grin

From what I hear HKG is plagued with constant haze and the spotting locations require very powerful lenses?
Europe is your best bet IMHO... try AMS, or FRA they are spotter-friendly and receive a good mix of traffic.

When it comes to friendliness of authorities and colorful traffic, give Japan a go!

Mark,
Come to AMS. I'll show you around, if you let me use your 600mm f4 for a while. Big grin

Hong Kong is terrible, some of the worst pollution i've seen, the airport maybe all that but the conditions for spotting are shit house, and that's putting it mildly.

seriously, Tokyo is hard to beat, as is most of Japan.

Hi Mark,

AMS is definitely one of the best airports Europe has to offer. In case you prefer the southern hemisphere I can highly recommend Sydney with loads of good spots, many widebodies & very friendly people. I'm sure you'll find new angles with your journalistic eye.

Japan? Hong Kong?? Pish Posh..

Come to KOREA! Seoul-Incheon is extremely underated for a major hub airport and there are very few pictures taken from that country.
It is extremely modern and a very advanced airport which I assure you will be filled with things to do and places to go.

Otherwise a long lens photojournalist like Mark needs a trip down under to the land of the Kiwis. Auckland/Wellington is my suggestion with wicked X-Winds and stunning scenery.

Or why not, Iqaulit?/ That place I hear is wicked.. Big grin

Been there, done that  Big grin And yes, it is a "cool place" in any case... -36°C windchill in November.

Cheers,
Tom
