Thanks in advance again to all you guys with ACARS information that may be able to help me out here.

I have just had this photo accepted on to the database:

It depicts New Zealand 2 flying overhead Manchester Airport on its way down to Heathrow, early to mid morning last Sunday, 6th March.

Can anyone with access to these things supply me with the aircraft's registration, to complete the photo's information.

Thanks again.

Paul

Nice pic. I have started to really get into contrail photo's.... I just love the way you can take a picture of this little dot in the sky and then work at it on PS and see what aircraft/airline it is....

One thing i was thinking about was getting one of these ACARS scanners. I have been told they pick up the reg of overflying aircraft... Is that true. And how much does this bit of kit cost....

Would sure make life easier if correct..

Simon

You may want to put a post in the Hobby forum, you may get more replies from there about the scanners and please keep me posted as I'm interested in this too.

Sent you an e-mail, getting more good results with the 300mm + 1.4.

Talk to you soon

Ohhh thanks Fergul , rub it in a bit more why don't you Big grin

BTW Gary (aka Granite) has been kind enough to have a look at a couple of the rejected photo's from the 300 mm and he also thought there may be a problem with the lens being soft. Also it seems to produce some strange digital banding as well ....  Sad

Im still waiting for a good sunny day so i can do some tests on the lens. Then failing that i have already spoken to Canon and they have told me to bring it down to Elstree to have some test done on it. They will then check if there is a problems. It may take 28 Days though  Sad

The only good point about the whole thing is the fact that its under warranty , so at least it won't cost me a penny to get it checked  Smile

The registration starts with ZK not NZ
this should be the flight you want

NZ0002 ZK-NBT 06/03/2005 10:08 AKL>LAX>LHR

If you do take it back to Canon let me know please, I'd hate to think that mine is the same.

I took my 28-70L down there a couple of weeks back, the chap I dealt with was great, he had a look at the lens whilst I waited, so it may not take a month. Better to get it checked soon before the nice weather arrives.  Smile

Ian.

Thanks for that website Paul.

Thanks Ian - I did in fact know that the reg started ZK. I think it was a typo as I had labelled my upload photo file with the prefix NZ, and must have got confused embarrassed . But thanks for the whole reg - now I can put it all right.

Simon,

All you need is a normal airband scanner plugged in to your soundcard on your PC and then the right bit of software. You can use Wacars which is free but memory hungry or Airnav Systems produce a couple of programs that will do the trick, the latter's Airnav 2.1 even downloads pics from A.net as the aircraft is picked up. Have a look at the following site for general info + links http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~pdw/alp/
