As far as I'm concerned MAN
is the best airport in the world for photography.
There is no other major airport that has as many locations where you can get really close to the action. The new runway (06R/24L) is practically circled by footpaths and you can see everything that is landing/taking off. It really is out of this world.
Beware the beast of the Bollin Valley though:
The location of the photo is within walking distance of the Aviation Viewing Park, which is itself a bus ride from the terminal. Level 13 of the car park at Terminal 1 has good views across much of the apron and Terminal 2.
As far as other airports are concerned in the north are concerned, I visit both LBA
fairly often and both have potential. Yeadon Cemetery is good for landing shots and as they line up when taking off/ landing towards the east. When they are taking off in the normal westerly direction, there is a concrete bench I stand on near to the road tunnel, where it's possible to get good shots. HUY
is fantastic as there is no perimeter fence! The only problem is the small amount of jet aircraft. There is a lot of GA
in out out though. Not sure how to get there by public transport, but I think there is a bus from Barnetby railway station.
Obviously missing something....
