Contrails: Airline & Type?

Wed Apr 13, 2005 8:01 am

Hey all  wave ,

I took 2 contrail shots today (my first ones Big grin ) but I'm not really a 10% sure about the airlines and aircraft types.

First one:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...irKas1/Contrail_AMS_12-04-05kj.jpg

I thought UA 763, but then someone else said 777. Any opinions on this one?

Then the second photo:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...as1/Contrail_AMS_12-04-05kj--2.jpg

I thought LH 744.

The both were coming from the east, going west.
The first one flew over at 18:02h and the 2nd one at 18:20h. (if it's any help).

Any thoughts?

First one looks like a 767, second one a 744

You're right about number one. It is a United 767. Number two....Possibly SQ? If not SQ then LH would be my next guess.

Thanks,

i think the first is a 777. The 763 wing's chordline is not that long at the root.

The second one looks like a DLH 744 the 1st is United mite be a T-7 as it looks a bit to big for a 767.

I think the first one is a UA 763. I don't see the slightly raked wingtips that a 777 has.

Definetly a UA 763 on the first one. The wing sweep on the 777 is much less than that of a 767.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I already uploaded the United as a 777, so I'll know if it's a 767 if it gets rejected for badinfo.  Smile

I thought that the blue belly made it a BA767? At least it looked like that to me........ The second i'd need a larger image to recognize.

UA's a/c have bare metal strips on the bottom of most aircraft.

I say 777 for the first.

OK Kasje,

here's the 10th opinion  Wink

First one looks definitely like a BA ... I don't know whether it's a 767 or a 777.

The second one is an LH 744.

The B772LR and B773ER are the only 777s with raked winglets (along with the 764).

UAL 763 - engines look too small to be a 777 IMO.
Second pic - no clue.

UA has the PW engines, which aren't as big as the GE90's or the Trents.

Wrong. The 772ER and non ER also have slightly raked wingtips, it is just not as pronounced as it is on the others you mentioned.

Tim.

Tim, thanks for that link. It gives a nice comparison. But... Now I'm thinking it's a 763  Silly Nothing wrong with that though.

I guess some may be right, and some may be not, It's kind of impossible to determine it with this many people who think it's a UA 763..... Or a UA 777....... Or a BA 767/777.

We'll know in a couple of days  Smile (Or does a screener have an opinion on this one?)

Kas,

That shot was taken a few weeks ago over MAN and I haven't determined what it is. I think it's a 763. It's definately in United's new colours. The blue of BA is much darker and there is no white on the belly.

It just struck me as being very similar to yours.

"The 772ER and non ER also have slightly raked wingtips"

You're saying these wingtips are raked?

"The wing sweep on the 777 is much less than that of a 767."

Anybody agree with that?

Well, I have the results ladies Big grin

For everyone who said 767... You go on to the next round!  Smile

The UA got rejected for badinfo. This is what I put in:

Amsterdam - Schiphol (AMS / EHAM)
Netherlands, April 12, 2005

United Airlines
Boeing 777-222/ER
Boeing 777-200

Reg: N***UA
Code:
Cn:

So I'm going to change it to a 767. Anything else that needs to be done?

But.. The 747 also got rejected for badinfo. Any ideas on this one, as I'm pretty sure it's a LH 744. What did I do wrong?

Amsterdam - Schiphol (AMS / EHAM)
Netherlands, April 12, 2005

Lufthansa
Boeing 747-430
Boeing 747-400 (AL-1)

Reg: D-AB**
Code:
Cn:

First off all the location is wrong.
Should be: Off-Airport - Amsterdam - Schiphol (AMS / EHAM)
Like described on the upload-page. Those little links named "Location help" where the highlightened yellow text "updated help" is placed below. Big grin

Argh! Makes sense Big grin I just thought it would be AMS, as they flew directly over us. Thanks a lot for the tip Peter!
