Question About Canon D300 And Nikon D70

Sun Apr 17, 2005 5:59 am

Hi,

Since they are many pictures [at a.net] taken with a Canon D300, I want to know more information about it.

My favourite place to buy photographic things are: >>>>>>>>>>> http://www.ritzcamera.com and/or http://www.wolfcamera.com which seems to be the same.

Nevertheless they don't display such camera nor its characteristics.

I would like to know also, compared with the Nikon D70, which one is better.

Thanks for your answers,

Both are good consumer cameras. Everyone has its advantages & disadvantages, like any other camera. If you already did photography so far maybe you know wether you prefer Canon or Nikon gear, which brand is more appealing to you. That's the first thing you should find out.

Also visiting a local camera store and trying to handle both, snapping a few testshots and "feeling" the camera bodies might help you. Find out which one seems to be more comfortable for you.

EDIT: All photos linked below are taken with the Canon 300D, just in case you're interested.

Little between them really, in terms of what you see on here. I must say that the D70 seems very well made, and looks terrific. The buffer performance is very good - absolutely thrashes the 300D - so if you shoot alot on motor drive that will benefit you.

The 300D is lower-priced and will give you access to a wide range of lenses, which you do need to think about when you commit to either system, because if the hobby sucks you in (very likely) you'll need to get at least one good bit of glass at some point.

I'd look at the 350/XT if I were you. Closer to the D70 in spec and price.

One word of advice I have would be to stay away from Ritz/Wolf. They are very, very expensive. Look at B&H. www.bhphoto.com They are the best!

I would like to second F9Widebody. They are overpriced. I looked into get my L lens from them and it was $1600 and change. Total rip. Now my parents picked up my 300D and got it from them so if you're not paying it's probably more convenient. I will caution you in that when I got mine from them they stated that they would issue me a $150 store credit after I got it and now 5 months have passed and nothing! They said that "we can't always stick to our policy" talk about bullshite! (This was also when the camera was $1100 w/ tax)

Thanks,

Matt

The D70 was released well after the 300D and represented a significant improvement in buffer performance, don't underrate that, continuous shooting is very useful for aircraft. However if I were camera shopping I would definitely look at the new 350, the 300D is beginning to look dated. There has been a thread on the 350 recently so do a search.  Smile

Not to be blunt, but if you knew anything about photography, you would know which camera to get.

Since this is a 'new' technology for you, choosing either camera will bring you happy results.

I had the same level of experience and asked the same questions you are asking before I purchased my camera and I have been happy with it ever since.

Nothing to be worry about.

Surrounded by so many good photographers, people that not only love aviation but also photography, taking respectful advantage of some of them is valid.

If you have the opportunity, I would strongly recommend getting your hands on both cameras and just seeing which feels better to you. There are a great many photographers on here who produce excellent work with the 300D, and Canon also seems to have a wider range of useful glass at the moment. So it's a solid choice. However, when I tried to use it, I absolutely HATED it. I have a D70 now, and I don't think I've ever owned another camera that I enjoy using more.
