Luckily Mr. Umphrey caught the screeners off guard!  angel

An awesome image I would say.
Maybe according A.net rules a bit dark but for the art of photography I am happy the rules have been lifted somewhat by accepting this wonderful image.

There are exceptions to every rule. I personally like the photograph and admire how anyone can get these motion photos because I know I've tried many times and have failed as many times as I have tried.
It all depends on composition. If the darkness COMPLEMENTS the photo, (very rare) it will be accepted. My advice, and this is strictly in a non attacking kind of way, email the photographer or a screener and ask questions. Bringing it in the forum will most likely cause many of us grief.

Thank you for the advice, CallMeCapt, but will you please read my initial post:

I am very very happy the screeners relaxed the standards this time, because I think this is one of the best shots I've ever seen. I am just being a tad ironic, as usual, no offence meant to anybody.

Cheers

Ah, sorry. I misunderstood. I thought you were angry and being sarcastic towards the photographer thinking the photo should not have made it.
My apologies.

Very nice.
Question. How the F*** do these guys get into a cockpit during flight. Security getting relaxed or are there connections involved?
I go on a runway tour every 2 weeks and the driver of the bus, who has been doing it for 5 years and knows everyone at the airport, says she can't even get tower access, yet you have guys like Sam (Lucky Bastard) who get up there with no problems?
Whats the deal? I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know.

About FlightDeck access luck is not an issue but hard work is.

Unfortunately so much whining and caring about other people's photos left little space for bringing out the good and a little bit of irony too. Smile

It is stunning indeed... already added it to two of my photo albums before... hehe Big grin

Ryan's work is just incredible, every single photo has kick-ass quality! ( ok, he got the kick-ass equipment, too - but still! )

Wonderful!

Javier thanks for sharing again a perfect photo.
I asked myself how was done, dark night, panning photo and 1600 ISO. The result is brilliant ( and the camera plus optics unbeatable )....

I took my chances in life and got me a seat up front, so the cockpit access comes with the job. But I do envy the ramp access others seem to have, being a pilot doesn't help much with that. I wish I could take those stunning rotations at LAX, for example.

Willem, thanks for the undeserved praise  blush  and the plug.

Cheers

Kick ass pic!

I think that pic is awesome. Not only a great night shot but a classic jet. Congrats on a well earned addition to the DB.
Hey that guy with the private jet can bail us out! Why? HE CAN AFFORD IT!

I've got one in the queue that I'm afraid will be shot down for bad dark, but I had to try. No way to brighten it up without making it look doctored:
http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...ready/AUBERApril15FWAN281KH_03.jpg
So why upload it? Well, it's a jumpseat shot in a cargo 727 - on short final at night - to a well-lit runway, and you can see the beginning of the flare in the 4 second exposure. I think it's cool - hopefully others can enjoy it too!

If only the camera had been steadier, and the camera had been a bit further forward, it would've been a top shot.

If you're talking about my shot - I was bearing down on the cam with as much force as I could. I had it propped on the security view box that lets you see what's on the other side of the cockpit door. There was no way to move the camera forward, and I doubt I could have held it more steady. The instrument panel is in focus, the long jagged lines are from the approach lighting.

After flying jumpseat several times a week in the past month, I've discovered that not only will a tripod not fit in there, it would be too flimsy to keep steady during the shaking pitching and rolling of approach.  bouncy

I'm flying next week - hopefully I can get some more shots like this, and experiment with some new techniques. If anyone has any advice or suggestions - please let me know!!

DREW

Umphrey is the man, I always like shooting with him, we somehow always end up talking about women, and then Anet (ha secrets  Wink) but its a blast hanging with him, somehow whenever I'm out there he is out there.

I'll be back in DFW June 26th Ryan, I'll see you at DFW sometime that week.

To top it off, Ryan is HIMSELF a screener. The hundreds and hundreds of pics he screens a week rob him of time he could be spending at the fence snapping off shots like these. So hats off to him and the other screeners who do a job I wouldn't.

Your plane parks quite close to where Ryan and the gang usually hang out. It's quite the club out there, at times. Me, Umhprey, Jay Davis, Sleekjet, JCS17, always a fun time.
