Spotting Locations In PRG And BER?

Thu May 05, 2005 2:33 pm

Hey all,

I'll be leaving in a week for a trip to PRG and BER, and I was wondering if anyone had tips for some good spotting locations (with access to public transport).

Also, if I have a two hour connection in AMS, will that be enough time to go to the observation deck?

Thanks,

If you're in Berlin on 21th/22th of May there will be a open doors day at SXF with sightseeing flights and so on. For TXL I recommend the Franzosen Hgel, but don't know if it's accesable by public transport.
www.berlinspotter.de - have a look.

Georg.

Maybe you can even make it to Dresden.

Doesn't really matter.

I arrive on the 22nd. So close, but there probably won't be enough time....  Sad

And thanks for the information.

One more thing I thought about - how are the authorities with regard to spotters?

About PRG, I know 2. 1 is only reachable by car (I don't know it you have one), the other one I don't know if it is still there, but I'll try to explain it to you anyway.

While in the terminal, walk towards the CSA checkin, walk outside and continue walking towards the freight area. When you are on the other side of the freight building (and tired) turn left. There is a fence wich is next to the cargoplatform, keep walking until you are in the corner. You now have a view on the taxiway, and landing aircrafts.

Note: for this spot 2 things are important, a small ladder (around 2-3 steps) and the wind blowing in the right direction.
For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and ther

Mir,

The link posted by Georg is an excellent source for spotting locations. I'd recommend THF as it's not sure how long it will open. Traffic is almost exclusively on weekdays in the morning & in the evening & smaller planes but it's worth the visit. I was at the east side of the airport (good for morning light) 2 years ago & really liked it.

TXL is a bit boring, if you ask me. The sand mound is OK for side shots.

The terrace is OK for planes taxiing & taking off. It's not always open though, & the airport staff sometimes even don't know if it will be open the next day. Excuses range from staff shortage to bad weather conditions in winter.

Berlin police are usually laid-back. The spots are open to the public, & there's no reason to chase you away.

But if you could make it try it. You can easily access the airport this day and probably a Boeing 727 of Syrian Airlines will be there.

Nice. I'll see what I can do, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
