Some Rejections Of Mine

Tue May 10, 2005 11:52 am

This one got rejected for badmotiv.

Is it becuase of the fence? Or something else?

http://www.airliners.net/procphotos/...UA_752_N593UA_LGA31Arr1_042105.jpg

And then this one got badsize. I guess I didn't realize how square I made it. I didn't know you could be too square like that, though. I just thought it was ok a long as you met the minimum size requirements, no? It's 1024 x 810.

I'm pretty sure it is because the fence is blocking part of the plane. That is pretty much an automatic rejection.

Nice pic Phil but that fence and that rubble really hurt the shot.

I agree with the above posts about pic number 1. For number 2 it is fairly square, it's hard to say what to do without the original. Don't crop so close to the engines if you can so the photo becomes wider. Good luck, and nice pics.

HAHA, he called it rubble. I love that. LGA's shoreline is not the cleanest of places.

As for the second photo, I was just going to crop a little off the top and bottom and reupload. That should fix it, no?

Im sure the second will get in when you resize to the 4-3 or 3-2 aspect ratio its a very nice shot.
2nd nothing can be done the fence has ruined the shot .
All the best with the second.

At the spot that I'm in, I have to position myself jsut right so that i get the plane below the skyline and above the fence.

The previous plane came in high I think, so I moved more to the left about 40 feet, which proved to be toomuch for the UA 757. Hit or miss, and I missed.

It's not. Take the beach at SYD for example. Some people get photos accepted with the fence blocking the engine, others have less luck.

Badmotiv rejections i guess are all subjective - right or wrongly?

Your 757 was definately cut coz of the fence - maybe bad aesthetics more appropriate - coz i can see you had motiv.....

Its all rough with smoothe (did i spell that right?) mate.

I hope peter dont mind me showing a shot of his as an example to back my point.....

Shoreline? Now I know why I live in the burbs!

I would cut the fence out all together, even if you lose some skyline it should still be a good shot.

Phil

Yes, fence is the problem in the first image.

Re-size the second and re-upload. Shouldn't be a problem after that. The 10D image should be OK.

Interesting picture of Peter's at SYD, I took this from almost the same spot, uploaded it and then pulled it because I thought badmotiv would kill it..

http://www.pbase.com/chrisg/image/43201129.jpg

Looking at it after I pulled it, needs a little quality work as well!!

Chris

PS not complaining about Peter's photo, think there should be more creative shots like this!!

As far as I can tell, Peter's shot was taken from the beach area and yours from the tower mound. The only common factor seems to be a bush in the way. Silly Nice shot anyway Chris, but I'm afraid you're probably correct about the potential badmotiv.

I think you should have kept that shot in as its a lovely shot and has motive also.
Do what you need to do to the quality.
I would resubmit this one defiantly

Hi Phil,

As for the second shot, just try and crop off little bits from the bottom and top. I think it would get the size back, plus it will give the picture a cool "in-your-face" look.

Good luck!

Sebastian
I guess that's what happens in the end, you start thinking about the beginning.

I do stand corrected... Peter's does look like it was taken from "Beach" maybe carpark??
Wasn't really trying to compare or complain about his!!

But Q330 tell me why you think it might be badmotiv... I suspected it might suffer for it but interested to know what others think.
Or why a shot with some foliage in the corner may be badmotiv when a plane half obscured by trees is not!

Chris

I do not think yours is badmotiv at all.... again its all subjective, to me badmotiv needs to be explored, your motiv looks clear, and no obstructions.

Peter's shot without the comments he used i feel would have been badmotiv however in his text he has referred to the "bush" quite clearly giving a reason behind his motiv - the screeners have deemed this to be a good motiv and so it was added.

no complaints at all plus viewing public have deemed it a good enough pic to levy a handfull of hits in its direction.

motiv needs to be questioned in a pic and if there is sufficient reason for how and why pic taken then i guess its down to the individual screeners to like or dislike........as i said its all subjective.

Basically because the bush sort of intrudes into the frame and distracts attention from the aircraft.

Quoting StealthZ (Reply 15):

That's probably a topic we shouldn't get started on...

Oh, and to try to keep this more or less on the original topic: Phil, as LHSebi said, just crop a bit off the top and bottom of the AA 757 shot to get the aspect ratio right and it should be fine.

Obviously... but it is the first time I have seen comments giving "reason behind his motiv" as being justification!!
Like I said I like the pic.. and respect Peter as a photographer and screener... just it gets back to that consistency thing!!

maybe these screeners will make up their mind one day - consistency needs to be questioned.
This gets bad motiv when mr Unmuth's bushwacker shot makes it.

nevermind i guess
