What's The Best Seat In A WN 737 For Window Shots?

Wed May 11, 2005 1:59 pm

Hello all,

I am booked and confirmed on Flight 1659 OAK-SNA. I have a feeling this is going to be a 737NG but was told that it "was not listed" by the rep. talking to me. Does anyone know of any good seat rows to look for for shooting out windows?

Any help would be great!

Thanks,

Matt

Yes, probably an A or F seat would be good.  Wink

It all depends on what you want to see / shoot. Flaps? So behind the wing.
Engine, in front of. Directly onto the wing? Exit row?

Has WN got the free seating policy?

One thing I have learned when trying to take window shots is not to stress out about what seat you get. In the end, 95-96% of them will turn out poorly, with the dirty windows and specks of frost that form on the window anyway. Just pick a window seat, if its a filthy window, move really quick, take some shots and enjoy your flight, don't overstress about where you sit.  Smile One other thing is that sometimes sitting over the wing can provide nice angles. Especially if the plane has winglets, so you should be able to get some good shots regardless.

Heh, come on Matt. Its not rocket science. Clean window is the key which has been stated.

I was always told that certain seats behind the wing would create poor shots due to the heat from the engine.

I usually like to be a little behind the wing for my window shots.........you get a nice angle on turns and can incorporate the wing in the shot without having your view blocked by it. Getting a clean no wing shot of an airport is also possible if you want to shoot without a part of your aircraft in the photo. Window shot rule #1 for me is to shoot as many as possible on takeoff and landing, then pick the best of them to upload. Check out my window views to get an idea of what I am describing..............Cheers, Anthony Russo

LOL, thanks for the plug Matt...if its an NG...I found row 9 has been pretty good.  Smile I would just avoid behind the wing if you can.

You shouldn't be amazed. You have long known I am "special" when it comes to stuff like this. How do you crop again? Wait what?

Nice shots!

Thanks,

Matt

Hey Matt,
What date and time are you coming in? Maybe I can catch your plane on approach or landing at SNA! Thanks.

I'm doing a one way to meet up with my girlfriend who's driving back on Sunday. I'm too cheap to fly back so I'm driving. My sister goes to UCI so this won't be my only trip down. I'll give you a heads up next time I'm down there.

Thanks again,

Matt
