Help Needed In Finding Photos

Sat May 21, 2005 8:32 am

Hello everyone,

I've just done a quick search of the database and a google search, and I can't find any photos of OE-LAV, the Lauda 767 that crashed north of Bangkok in 1991.

I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of where I can get hold of a couple of shots of this aircraft before the accident.

Without wanting to bore everyone to sleep, it is for my final year university project, that I'll be starting when I go back in September. My usual discipline is Materials/Process Engineering, but for a change I thought I'd base the thing around simulation techniques.

A lot of airlines operating the 767 tried to replicate the inflight deployment of reverse thrust after the accident, with very inaccurate results as the simulators weren't equipped with the control parameters for such an action, as it wasn't considered as normal flight. What Boeing and the NTSB did to provide these was to extrapolate data taken from 767 trials in wind tunnels at low speeds. Lauda flight 004 was traveling at Mach 0.78 at the time of the accident, which isn't really replicable in a wind tunnel. It's this extrapolation I'm interested in.

If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

While we're on the topic, I have access to the official accident report. If anyone knows of somewhere where I can get hold of a detailed flight history, this would be a bonus too, as the official report is sketchy to say the least.

Airliner photography is not a crime.
