ORD On June 10-11

Wed Jun 08, 2005 2:35 am

Well I thought I'd follow Josh's post re: SFO with one of my own for ORD.
If any locals want to meet up for some spotting/photography June 10 and/or all day June 11 that would be very cool.
I'm staying at Hyatt O'Hare and leave the evening of June 11th.
Also if you have them, I'd appreciate some suggestions on where I can go for some safe photography. You can email me through a.net

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Kaz

Sorry will be in Austin then, bad weekend to pick it as I probably know the spots at ORD better than everyone else.

But I dont know if you will have a car?

If you do not then it will be really really hard because there are only about 3 spots to go to. The problem? ORD is no Midway and the spots are on opposites sides.

I will have a car and I know the area around ORD pretty well.
I used to live in Chicago about 5 yrs ago.
It's just that I wasn't into the photography much back then.
So any help you can give me is helpful and much appreciated.

Cheers,
Kaz

Yea just an update,

It looks like S Winds therefore 75% of the International traffic will be landing on 14R and 100% of Cargo, Im 99% sure it will be 14R, 22R ILS for arrivals and 22L for Visual approach. 22R will not be used because its farther away from cargo, and 22L might see an Atlas 742F but thats about it. Takeoffs will be 22L, 27L and 14s for the heavy stuff.

Heres a map where id go if I wanted to catch the 14R arrivals right over me:

Where you want to go is Arthur Road 1 streets from Devon (Where the Thorntons is) Drive on elmhurst and turn into Arthur road, about 1/8th of a mile there is a million ROADWAY Transport semis, turn into the parking lot right before them. Perfect views, and unobstructed.

Awesome thanks for the update...
Will cops be an issue at any of these places?
I have no issue with them stopping to make sure I am cool it's their job, but hopefully not be harassed unnecessarily.

Kaz

ORD is pretty much as bad as it gets in the US in terms of being hassled by the local police. It's been a couple years since I've last done any photography at ORD, but the rule then was to stay away from the fence. Really, it all depends who is on duty that day. Some police will wave and smile as they drive by, and others will be ready to arrest you if you so much as even look at an airplane. Lol...

Good luck. ORD had me by the nutz for the 2 1/2 years I lived near there. If it wasn't the dreary weather, it was the local police shooing everyone away. I had some good times out there, and I'll always have fond memories of the place...but I'm really glad to not have to deal with it anymore!!! I feel like I "paid my dues", that's for sure.
