Freak me. I see one rather large spot above the center. That's lame! I haven't switched lenses on this camera nor have I opened her up....bummer....major bummer.

Thanks,

Matt

Most likley they came "free of charge" from the factory. Just buy some swabs and clean it, your going to get real good at it anyway, you might as well learn now.

To find the spots, just use IMAGE>ADJUSTMENT>EQUALIZE on a duplicate layer. They will jump right out at you.

Lovely shots Matt. I see the same dust spot in about the same place on all of them. On the NCA 747, go upwards from the exhaust on the number 2 engine and you'll hit it. It's in roughly the same place on them all.

No need for the originals, just a quick clone.

Good to see those shots on a real monitor. Well done.

damn! You no longer have the originals? They not on your computer hard drive? Those are some killer shots! There was a thread about it a while back. *Comforts* on the loss!

Welcome to the world of factory dust on the 20D. Mine was loaded with it too, and I dont think that ive yet to sell one that didnt have some as well. Before you try pecpads you may want to try a blower, sometimes it can get the job done and its not as nerve racking.

Very nice pics, although a little too tightly cropped imo, would look better in 3:2 aswell. Losing originals must be a nightmare.

yeah same my 20D had about 22 dust spots i think it was right out of the box. sent it back and got a new one due to advice that there were too many to fix. replacement had about 6 or something i think but the specgrabber delt with them. sucked to see all the dust in a new camera

I see three spots, all in a line from the centre one on a 05 heading.

I had the same problem with my camera .
Canon called them factory dust .
Goran just got himself a 300d and he has absolutely no dust at all .
I wonder why this problem is mostly on the 20d?

Not to jump too far off topic...but I assume that's SFO, right? Where were those shots taken from?

Very nice!

Hi

A good check is to go image-adjustments-equalize to see where all the dust spots are.....I've cleaned my sensor a couple of times but unless you never change the lenses, then sensor dust is a curse we all have to put up with!!

As the first part of my workflow, I now create a new layer from the original, equalize the copied layer and then I can get rid of the spots on the original layer with the clone tool or healing tool. Once they are removed, click on the copied layer and delete it.

My 350D was dust free as well. All the dust problems with the 20D is one of the reasons why I decided to go with the 350D plus it was less expensive.

Seems like the 20D just comes with factory installed dust as a standard feature.  silly

A spot...  crazy

I actually had to lean over the edge of a 9 story parking lot, like a lot, to catch these. I'm not a big fan of the method but the results are amazing!

Thanks,

Matt

Yeah, but from the factory? Would you buy a new car with a few coffee stains on the front seat. I think the general gripe is that a $1600 camera should not "include" dust on the sensor. True, you can clean it, but if there is going to be coffee spilled on my car seat or dust on my sensor, I should be the one to put it there, not the factory worker.

And to see some of the dust spots that are on the shipped cameras, makes me think they were assembled outside in the Sahara desert during a dust storm. I have seen 3-6 months (average use) worth of dust in some cases. It is a bit extreme.

If you took off the body cap to put your lens on, you could have been the culprit. It's only dust, blow it off. If you look over the new car in the showroom and see the coffee stain, do you say something? Or just complain about it when you get home?  rotfl
