I did post this on another thread but it seems to have been lost within another arguement. I have therefore posted its own thread for comments etc etc....

On this point i have to just add a few points regarding my trip to MIA
Day 1 : I was in the proper viewing/photo area. No problem even though the Sun was in the wrong place + the aircraft were on the wrong runways.... Still i spent a few hours there fighting a loosing battle.... Anyway for over 1 hr i had a Miami/Dade county police car watching me snap away. They did not bother me and had no problems at all....
Day 2 : The weather improved + the runways had changed so i went for an additional day at the airport.... The heat haze was a nightmare but still had fun.... Anyway after about 1 hour again in the official viewing area again a Miami/Dade county cop car parked up and watched me for 30 mins.... Then the car came over and the policeman wound down his window.... (Oh no i thought , based on my various days at LHR
Cop :"Good morning sir i can see you taking photo's of the aircraft".
Me : "Good morning sir. Yes thats correct my hobby is taking pictures of aircraft. I put them on a website called A.Net. And even sell them... Would you like to see my id as i know you guys have a job to do and need to check me out".
Cop : "Sure" the cop replied in a polite manor and had a quick look at my passport. "
Me : "No problem i answered. I Then said "I checked out that this is the only place im allowed to be, are there any other areas im allowed".
Cop : Sorry No its just here your allowed (By the holes)..... I see your from the UK.
Me : Yes i am. Im here with the family on holiday and have a couple of days here in Miami ...
Cop : No problem sir have a good day and smiled as he drove off !!!
Ohhh well that was not to bad i thought....
Then an hour later another Miami/Dade county cop pull up and this time got out.... Oh f#### i thought what now.....
Me : Hi there.... I already had one of your guys check me out about an hour ago....
Cop : "Hello Sir". And he put out his hand to shake mine.... This i did (rather confused). "I came over as i wanted to check your equipment".
Me : "Oh ok. Do you want me to open my rucksack to check whats inside".
Cop : "Oh heck no , you have already been checked.... Im thinking of getting a Cannon 100-400 L and wondered what you thought of it... What camera and Lens is that your using..... Etc etc !!!!
Then we chatted about the pro's and cons of my 70-200 L +1.4 vs the 100-400 L for wildlife photos. After about 20 min he thanked me and went on his way... I was really amazed at the great attitude the MIA
cops had. Very polite and far more friendly than the LHR
police. It did make me feel a bit like screaming out "Why can't every airport cop be like here in MIA
" !!!!! Mind you saying that i wonder how polite they would have been if i was in another area....
The only problem i had was when the EL AL 747 turned up. As is normal out came the EL AL security guys.... And they kept a very close eye on me from the other side of the fence.... Not sure if they called me in as within 10 mins another Miami cop car was watching me.... Made me feel quite important, all these people watching little old me..... Then i did start to wonder that im sure they had better things to do , like stopping crime
About 2 hours later the weather turned and i had to run for it when a huge thunder and lightning storm hit within moments..... Pity as the sun had started to go round to a far better side !!! Oh well !!!!
Sorry i just thought i would share that little lot with you...... So thumbs up MIA
for a very photographer friendly airport. Well as long as your in the correct area anyway !!!!
