Stockholm ARN/BMA Photo Spots/hotel Reqs

Sun Jun 12, 2005 5:31 pm

Greetings...

Heading to ARN for a day or two around June 22-23rd. I know from this site that there are a few places to shoot from. Question to ask the locals:
Which hotels would be within reasonable walking distance to the spots where landings or taxi by shots could be taken?
Once at Bromma, how do you get to the photo spots?

Any help gladly appreciated.
Jeffrey

There's an IBIS hotel up just beside the approach to 19L. From there you can walk to the 26 threshhold aswell. There's a Radisson close to taxiway U, which is probably a lot more expensive. Ibis has a free bus-service from the airport.

check this guide out: http://arn.ewenson.net/

the Ibis is at spot no 8 basically. The Radisson (or is it Mornington? cant remember) is at spot no 4. I see you're here on weekdays which is good, they're likely to use 19L/01R then during the rush-hours. Usually for landings.

Walking to 01L/19R might take a while. Probably easiest to take the free bus to the terminals, and then catch a normal bus from there, I think its bus 583. I'd drive you around but unfortunately I'm working on those days. Perhaps someone else is out there though.

You might get lucky on the thursday, and get three jumbos, Thai, Malaysian, and Iran (which could be an A300/310, but could also be a 747-100 or 747-SP). Thai lands at 06.50, the cargo comes in even earlier, sunrise is at 3:30 AM around those dates so you got plenty of light  Wink
what seems to be the officer, problem?

Chris: The Radisson hotel has "Arlandia" as subname.

I agree with Chris, Thursday is the best day to spend at ARN. The freighters will arrive around 5-ish, and the TNT TU-204 will leave within the hour, I think he goes to Örebro.

Have fun!!!

There's a good little spot at the bottom of 19R, where such shots can be taken:

Then there's the pavilion up near the taxiway for 19L departures/01R arrivals:

Departure shots, like this one off 08, can be shot:

Hope it helps somewhat.

Spencer, Chris's,

Many many thanks for the help. Right now, plans are a bit up in the air as to when I'll arrive on the 22nd due to work commitments, but I should be there sometime for sure. The 23rd will be the heavy day of photography should the weather allow. Will plan on the Ibis as it seems to be quite easy for the good spots of 1R/19L.

Here's to good weather and thanks again
