Badinfo And The New Queue

Sun Jun 19, 2005 6:29 pm

Recently, I've had a few rejections kicked back as Badinfo with the personal message of "Reg# should be *****." I've noticed that it's only been within the last few weeks that this new reg system has been in place, as before i remember it as always being just leaving the field blank when the reg is unknown. With the brand-new Queue in place and me still using the old reg system (since when was the new system put in place/enforced and why hasn't there been any discussion?) I've been seeing alot of badinfo. Which has dropped the number of available upload slots I have. Considerably.

I feel it is important to either put a corrections page for the screeners (honestly how hard is it to type "*" 5 times?), accept a photo but put it into a corrections Q before database inclusion (where Badinfo is the only rejection reason), and set it up to where Badinfo rejections don't affect Queue limits.

Thoughts?

Using *s where (part of) the reg is unknown is something that has been around since before I became an editor - which was October 2003.

From the registration help on the upload page:
When your photo is depicting an airfield or another subject not being an aircraft, leave this field blank. If your photo depicts an aircraft but you don't know the nationality and the registration, list the registration with five stars as *****. When you know the registration partly, list the details you know and fill the rest up with stars, e.g. N*****, D-A***, SE-***, PH-BD*, N5**DA, HB-JA*, 85-018*, A97-***, etc.

Eric,

Taken from the registration help on the upload page:

This has been in place for as long as I can remember, I think. You could have checked before you uploaded to see what was required, I normally would in those special circumstances.

Well, if you had done it in the first place you wouldn't have received the badinfo rejection, so obviously it is too hard to type * five times.

Best Regards,
Justin

Edit: Jaspike, great minds huh!  Smile

Ok fine, I guess it was never enforced strictly because I've always left it blank and been fine.

But I do have a question for Newbie's sake. When it's someone's first upload and the only rejection is badinfo, do you accept or reject? What about when it's someone with over 1,000 photos?

All people are subject to the same rules, whether they have 1 or 1000 photos in the db.

And there's no way to correct a photo when it's the guy's first acceptable shot and it gets kicked for badinfo?
